The Sacred Readings Form In The Ordinary Form Mass

18 Aug

Anglican Bishop John Moorman was one of the 6 Protestant Consultants to The Sacrosanctum Concillium headed by Archbishop Annibale Bugnini.
His Format of Opening Prayer, Old Testament, Responsorial Psalm, Epistle, Alleluia and Gospel, followed by Homily, is in the Ordinary Form Mass of Today.

Then again, Protestants prefer More Scripture is because they do not have True Sacraments nor Valid Holy Orders, especially when it comes to The Most Holy Sacrament of The Altar, The Holy Eucharist.
During the Tridentine Latin Mass, it is Introit(Collect), Epistle, Graduale or Tract, Gospel, followed by Homily. In the Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, It is Exhortation, Epistle, Alleluia and Gospel, followed by Homily.

Sadly, what began to disappear from the Mass, all in The Name of “Active Participation”, is the Contemplative Silence, especially at the Offertory and Consecration, especially at the Consecration when the Bread and Wine become the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity Of Jesus Christ. It is even stranger at the Consecration with a chant of “The Mysterium Fidei”, when the True Mysterium Fidei is the Miracle of The Consecration.

One of the 6 Protestant Consultants actually became a Catholic Priest and called for a “Reform of The Reform”, referring to the Ordinary Form Mass as less than Inspiring, with far less “Actual Participation”, even calling for the Mass change to include Ad Orientum, that is, facing Liturgical East and the Singing of Gregorian Chant. It should be noted that Priest, Fr Max Thurian, was ignored by The Sacred Liturgical Commission before he died in 1996.

Presently, I do take Solace in the Tridentine Latin Mass and the Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom. Both forms of The Sacred Catholic Liturgy do sustain me. Both do the Catholic Traditional Form of The Sacred Readings. No Junk Forms of Music is ever sung. And There is “Actual Participation”, not “Active Participation.” We need not be Loud in our Worship of God, just Reverent. Bells and Not Tambourines, are just Fine.

Kyrie Elaison!
