The New, Younger Traditionalists

17 Sep

These Catholic Traditionalists aren’t Yesterday’s Traditionalists. For the Younger Traditionalists who worship at Holy Innocents R C Church on W37th Street in Manhattan, or at St Agnes on East 43rd Street(Venerable Archbishop Fulton J Sheen Place) in Manhattan, or at the Queens Latin Mass at St John’s Cemetery Chapel in Middle Village, Queens, there is “The Eastern Catholic Church Option.”
A good number of The Younger Latin Mass Traditionalists at Holy Innocents tell me that they often head to St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on East 7th Street in Manhattan’s East Village for the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom. I do go there on some Sundays for the 4:00PM Divine Liturgy in English and do run into those who have been at the Tridentine Latin Mass at Holy Innocents, hence the Younger Traditionalists do worship Bi Ritually, crossing from the Roman Rite to the Byzantine Rite, all while remaining in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.
An older man from the Queens Latin Mass Group, introduced me to this biritual practice. I will state that one senses greater devotion and worship in the Traditional Sense than if one stays exclusively with the Ordinary Form Mass.

The Homilies of The Priests of both the Tridentine Latin Mass and Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, speak of Sin and the Necessity of Repentance from Sin. The Homilies of The Priests in the Roman Rite Ordinary Form Mass(Novus Ordo), tend to be more Humanistic(Unless One is at St Agnes on East 43rd Street in Midtown Manhattan). About the ONLY Ordinary Form Mass I would go to is at St Agnes, as at the 5:15PM Saturday Vigil Mass, there is much Gregorian Chant at the Mass, which enhances the Mass. The Younger Traditionalists sometimes go to the 5:15 Saturday Vigil at St Agnes on East 43rd Street.
But, most often, they are at Holy Innocents or St. Agnes for the Tridentine Latin Mass. I am often at the Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom on Saturdays at the Saturday Vigil 5:00PM at Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Astoria, especially when I am mandated to be at a Knights of Columbus Mass in the Roman Rite Ordinary Form, where the possibility of Haugen, Haas, Schutte “Muzak” may be ignored by me.
The Younger Traditionalists and the Older Gent at St. John’s Cemetery Chapel have taught me that one may cross rites over to the Byzantine Rite for Beautiful Catholic Liturgies. One need not rely upon the Novus Ordo Missae to truly worship The Triune God. The Younger Traditionalists are pointing the way in truly learning of The Richness of Our Catholic Church Heritage.
Pope Francis I might be surprised about The Younger Traditionalists.
