The Prayer Before Holy Communion Byzantine Rite

23 Sep

The more I read the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, I more realize the pattern of convergence with the Tridentine Latin Mass, more so than with the Ordinary Form Mass, called The Novus Ordo Missae.

In the Tridentine Latin Mass, before Holy Communion, the Altar Server recites the Confiteor and the Priest responds. Prior to the distribution of Holy Communion, The Domine Non Sum Dignus is prayed 3 Times.
There is a Pre Holy Communion Prayer, which like the two Latin Prayers, is Penitential in Practice. This is convergence of The Two Catholic Rites, both Roman and Byzantine.

There are Prayers for The Roman Pontiff which occur Four Times in the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom. Also the Patriarchs, Metropolitans and Diocesan Bishops occur in the Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom.

So, I write this for Roman Rite Catholics to help them to understand this Liturgy, both Traditionalists and Ordinary Form Mass Catholics.

Pax Domini Sit Semper Vobiscum
