17, 17, 27 Sundays

1 Oct

To re orient myself thoroughly this weekend, I shall head to the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom at Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Astoria, Queens, for the Saturday Vigil 5:00PM Divine Liturgy in English, for the 17th Sunday After Pentecost, also called The 17th Sunday After The Descent of The Holy Spirit.  I need this form of Catholic Church Liturgy to remind me of God’s Grace and Awesomeness. It does help that it is also in English. The “Marty Haugen and David Haas Music Festival” of The NO Mass, is totally unheard of in the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, which is an Awesome Feat, in that one worships The Triune God, without the Distraction of “Muzak”, which, according to a Forest Hills, Queens Expert on such matters of Haugen, Haas and Schutte, said “Muzak” is known for inducing many into a queue at a Restroom in order to relieve Nausea from hearing said Muzak.
Please do note that this Awesome and Ancient Liturgy is sung with Great Devotion. It is also a Liturgy where one is made aware of one’s sinfulness and NEED to repent.

On Sunday, which the Tridentine Form Calendar calls “The 17th Sunday After Pentecost”, the Tridentine Latin Mass will be offered. This Liturgy went through Organic Development. This is also a Sung Liturgy with Gregorian Chant. It is Most Awesome. One will realize that he or she will truly have offered True Prayer to The Triune God.

As for The 27th Sunday Of Ordinary Time on 5 October, 2014, if one heads to Saint Agnes on East 43rd Street(Venerable Archbishop Fulton J Sheen Place) in Midtown Manhattan, for the Saturday Vigil Mass at 5:15PM on 4 October, 2014, one will notice that Gregorian Chant is Huge at the Ordinary Form Mass. Entrance and Communion Antiphons, and Gloria are sung in Latin, while the Kyrie Elaison is sung in Greek. This is a “Read The Black and Do The Red” Ordinary Form Mass. And Priests at Saint Agnes Parish, do preach about Sin and the Consequences. Often, only an Opening Hymn, a Stately One at that, is played. Also, a Latin Chant is sung at the End of The Mass. It is NOT your usual Ordinary Form Mass. The Muzak of Marty Haugen, David Haas and Dan Schutte and Company, is Unwelcome at St Agnes. This is the Parish, where, in 1989, the Tridentine Latin Mass finally “Came out of the Proverbial Catacombs.”
There is an Option, exercised by many, to receive Holy Communion at St Agnes, by Kneeling at the Altar Rail at the Ordinary Form Mass. There is a big Mix of Older and Younger People who prefer kneeling at the Altar Rail to receive Holy Communion, which is extremely rare during the Ordinary Form Mass at St. Agnes.
Note that the “Eye of The Tiber” Satire of The 27th Sunday Of Ordinary Time, is just a Snark Piece. Father Robert Barron is not making a DVD Series called “Ordinary.”
But, by All Means, be at Mass on Sunday.

Deo Gratias!
