Deo Gratias For The Byzantine Rite Backup Plan

12 Oct

I like the fact that St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Manhattan’s East Village has a 4:00PM Divine Liturgy in the Byzantine Rite in English. I am attracted to this Liturgy, as it is Both Catholic and Traditional.
But, what amazes me is that New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Lack of Authority, or MTLOA, also called The Metropolitan Transit Lack of a Plan, or MTLOAP, decided that on a Holiday Weekend, it would be a Grand Idea to reroute travelling plans by scheduling Subway Construction all over the System.
I had plans to head to either Holy Innocents Parish in Manhattan on W37th Street or St Agnes on East 43rd Street(Venerable Archbishop Fulton J Sheen Place), but found that Subway Services are being curtailed, c/o the MTLOAP. So, The Byzantine Rite Backup Plan, called Plan B, is in effect, as I am heading to Manhattan’s East Village.

St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church has a little-known, except to the Locals and University Students, Cafe’, called Streecha, a rather inexpensive place to purchase something Simple and Delicious. The people there are nice.

Another thing is that the younger Latin Mass People, those who go to Holy Innocents in Midtown Manhattan,  also head to the Parish.

No “Music” by Marty Haugen nor David Haas nor their Accomplices, is ever played here. Parts of The Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom are sung by Cantor and Congregation. I leave the Divine Liturgy with Awe and Wonder.

Deo Gratias
