23rd Sunday After Pentecost(Tridentine)

18 Nov

This Gospel according to Saint Matthew was proclaimed, earlier this year, in the Sundays After Pentecost, at Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Astoria, Queens, NY, and again on the 23rd Sunday After Pentecost in the Tridentine Form Mass in Latin at St John’s Cemetery Chapel in Middle Village, Queens, NY.
For in a Village in Palestine, a man is overrun with Demons and tormented by them. The villagers think of him as some kind of crazy man.
The man cries to Jesus Christ The Savior. The Christ calls out the Demons. The demon answers that his name is Legion. A herd of swine is in the area. Jesus commands the Demons to leave the man and then the Demons entered the Swine. The Swine Herd runs into the sea and drowns.
Both sets of Readings, one for the Churches of The Roman Rite Tridentine Latin Mass and Byzantine Rite Catholic Churches are in a 1 Year Cycle.
Next Sunday is the 24th and Last Sunday After Pentecost, in the Roman Rite Tridentine Latin Mass Calendar. Next Sunday is the 34th Sunday Of Ordinary Time and is The Feast of Christ The King on the Ordinary Form Mass Calendar.
With the Tridentine and Novus Ordo Mass Calendars, it is almost as if there are two rites inside of The Roman Rite instead of one Rite.
Which brings us to Two Anniversaries of Note in the Roman Rite of The Church:
On Saturday, 11/29/14, it will be the 50th Anniversary of The 1st Changes in the Tridentine Form Mass. The Prayers at The Foot of The Altar and other Prayers remain the same, but they primarily are in Vernacular, though the Offertory and Consecration Prayers are still offered in Latin, the addition of the Post Nicene Creed Prayers of The Faithful-General Intercessions, which are variations of The Great Litany in the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgies of St John Chrysostom and St Basil The Great and the Option of The Sign of Peace, which if one goes to the 8AM Mass at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills, Queens, NY, one witnesses “The Martyrs Wave”, as people are so spread apart, that they wave to each other. A Holy Communion Response, which was promulgated on Easter Sunday, March 29th, 1964, went as follows:
“Corpus Christi”, to which we responded “Amen”, was now done in English as the Priest said “Body of Christ”, to which we responded “Amen.”
The Tridentine Form of The Mass remained until 1969, but the Praying of The Last Gospel was eliminated except in the High Masses in that Period.
On Sunday, November 30th, is the 45th Anniversary of The New Mass, which often is called The Missa Novus, Novus Ordo Missae, and in the Ecclesia Dei Queens, NY Group, The NO. I think that when going to the New Mass, I may be a bit disoriented by having a Priest in the position of facing the Congregation, but it is The Mass.

But, the New Mass being the Mass, the Music is still AWFUL. It distracts away from God.

Kyrie Elaison!

M, Eh!
