The Streak Was Broken

24 Nov

It has been over 3 months without going to an Ordinary Form Mass, except for a Mass of Christian Burial and a Knights of Columbus Council Installation(The 4 Hymn Disaster on September 24th). It has been either the Tridentine Latin Mass or the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom.

On the Ordinary Form Mass Calendar, this is the last Sunday of the Year, the 34th Sunday Of Ordinary Time, is The Feast of Christ The King. And the Gospel, was set at the End of The World, as it is at the Tridentine Latin Mass(24th and Last Sunday After Pentecost). Deacon Greg Kandra proclaimed the Gospel and Homily, which Deacon Kandra proclaims so well. To those who may not know this, Deacon Greg Kandra is most known for the blog “The Deacon’s Bench” on Patheos and eminently readable.
To find Jesus Christ, one needs to look to people of Lower Class. You may not see this amongst the Higher Strata. So one may not know where one will encounter Christ.

It was during the General Intercessions/Prayers of The Faithful, when I shed a few tears. Basically, these Intentions are derived from the Great Litany of The Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, so when a Litany for The Pope was chanted, I was choking back tears, as this comes from the Byzantine Liturgies(Wisdom, Let Us Be Attentive).

Parts of The Mass were sung in Latin. For the current Liturgy of the Roman Rite can be done so well. And I needed to do it.

The Sign of Peace at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs is done in a most interesting fashion, in that at the morning Weekday Mass, because of the People being spread out, that people wave to each other. But, even with people being closer together and that it was rather crowded at the 1:00PM Mass, the Flock waved to each other, hence why I call this Liturgical Practice “The Martyrs Wave”. As it is Cold and Influenza Virus Season, “The Wave” is a Practical Expression of Peace and Affection.

Patricia Cay sang many parts of The Mass. Maestro David Close played many complex tunes written by Ralph Vaughn Williams. And in 32 Years of listening to him tickling the Ivories on the Organ from his time at St Thomas Apostle in Woodhaven, Queens, NY, he played “Celtic Alleluia” in a most endearingly lively way. For the last time “Celtic Alleluia” was heard at O L Q M, Fr Antonin Kocurek had intoned that chant without accompaniment, in 2013.  Fr Antonin was the Celebrant yesterday at 1PM.

The Unbloodied Sacrifice led to our partaking of The Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, for The Sacrifice of The Christ is the Centre of The Life of The Church. For Without Him, there is No Salvation and No Redemption.

Deo Gratias!

“Ripping Off The Flock”

23 Nov

Ripping Off The Flock: http://youtu.be/KhBEzrNii1k

Heads up to Michael Voris on this one. The Catholic Campaign For Human Development gave money to “Empower DC”, which had a website, since taken down, to give advice to Prostitutes on how to fail to cooperate with the Police, or how to avoid detection by Law Enforcement in the Nation’s Capital.

Don’t give anything to these guys tomorrow.

Kyrie Elaison!

The Nativity Fast(St. Phillip’s Fast)

22 Nov

The Byzantine Catholic Churches as well as other Eastern Catholic Churches, as well as the Eastern Orthodox Churches as well as the Oriental Orthodox Churches, all have what is called “Saint Phillip’s Fast”, commonly called The Nativity Fast.
For what St. John Chrysostom(Bishop, Confessor, Doctor of The Church, Feast on the Tridentine Latin Mass Calendar is January 27th) said about Fasting that it is more than a Food Fast, rather it is a time of Prayer, a time to give up Sinning with your thoughts, ears and mouth.
This Fast used to be observed as the Advent Fast in the Roman Rite. Now the only reminders of Advent in the Roman Rite are the Non Praying of The “Gloria In Excelsis Deo”, except on December 8th(Feast of The Immaculate Conception), the 4 Advent Candles with Advent Wreath & that the Priest wears the Penitential Colour of Lavender. Then, there are the Communal Penance Services.
Even though I’m Roman Rite Catholic, I will be following the Byzantine Rite Practice of no meat on Wednesday and Friday for the 1st two weeks of Advent and may extend it to Christmas in the Roman Rite.
Wednesday Abstinence commemorates “Spy Wednesday”, when Judas Iscariot went to the Pharisees to betray Jesus. Friday Commemoration is for Good Friday when Jesus Christ died on The Cross. This, so many years ago, was the Roman Rite Catholic Practice.
Besides, I need to sacrifice the pounds I have put on me. Eating too much junk, doesn’t Give Glory To God. It says that I have been selfish.
The St. Phillip’s Fast (Nativity Fast) begins November 28th(Gregorian Calendar, which is November 15th, Julian Calendar).
Pray for The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, Always. Remember the Pope, Bishops, Priests, Deacons and Religious as well The Souls in Purgatory. Offer up one’s Prayers and Fasts for them. Ask the Intercession of Holy Mary Theotokos, Mother of God, Always and Especially during this Period.

Kyrie Elaison!
Deo Gratias!

I May Return To Novus Mass, This Saturday

20 Nov

I realise that One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church in the Roman Rite, has Two Distinctive Forms of Liturgy.
Both come to the same conclusion that the Bread and Wine become the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.
Both are occasions of Grace. That I must Not Forget. And since it is a Morning Mass, there is no danger of “I Love Me”Muzak.
Note that the 1st Novus Ordo Mass will be at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs R C Church on Queens Boulevard and Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills, Queens, NY.
Later, I will head to Streecha for Thanksgiving Dinner. Streecha is owned and operated by St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on East 7th Street in Manhattan’s East Village. Afterwards, I may head to Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on 30th Street and 31st Avenue in Astoria, Queens for The 24th Sunday After Pentecost.
Then, on Sunday, 11/23/14, I will head to the Tridentine Latin Mass for the 24th and Last Sunday After Pentecost at St John’s Cemetery Chapel in Middle Village, Queens.

Happy Thanksgiving!

“Ad Orientem Et Versus Populum”

20 Nov

Okay, I’m very used to it at the Tridentine Latin Mass and Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom. I was listening to Fr John Zuhlzdorf, known as “Fr Z” & his blog, “What does the Prayer Really Say”.

Ad Orientem is when the Holy Sacrifice of The Mass, with Priest and Congregation, are facing “Liturgical East”, that is “Awaiting Christ’s Second Coming”, which is said to be coming via the East. This practice is always seen at both the Tridentine Latin Mass and the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, as the Priest, “In Persona Christi”, offers the Sacrifice to God The Father.
This “Ad Orientem” practice, requires a Crucifix showing “Jesus Christ Crucified” on the Main Altar. The portable Altar may be used in Ad Orientem practice.
This is also encouraged at the Novus Ordo Mass, known for the portable Altar.
For, as Fr Z put it, that when Mass is offered Ad Orientem, the Focus is wholly on Christ in the Sacrifice. The Mass then has a Sense of Mystery, which is as it should be. Jesus Christ is the Actual Performer in the Human Form of The Priest.
With “Versus Populum”, the Priest is tempted to think that he is the Star Performer. I am not comfortable with the Priest looking toward the Congregation, even after 45 Years. It has been said that with the Priest facing the People, that the Mass closes in on itself. This observation was made by both Fr Z and by a former Protestant Minister, who was one of the 6 Protestant Ministers who helped shape the Novus Ordo Mass, and was later a Roman Catholic Priest, Fr Max Thurian(d. The Feast of The Assumption, August 15th, 1996).

Fr Z thinks not highly of Communion In The Hand, nor standing, in the Roman Rite.  Adding bad catechisis to the mix and people started to doubt the Corporeal Real Presence.

Kyrie Elaison!

Dates & Seasons

20 Nov

Earlier this year, The Winter Olympic Games were held in Sochi, Russia. New York City even offered to ship snow to Sochi, it was so warm there(Okay, Not Really).
But, the NYC Temps were -5°C(22°F), just a couple of hours ago. It has just warmed up to 2°C(35°F).
Why Temperature Readings are being given in Celsius and Fahrenheit:
I do have readers outside of The USA, so I can render to my readers an accurate picture of what is going on here in NYC. And courtesy of CBC Radio One Montreal, I learned how to report weather in regards to Fahrenheit and Celsius. In Fahrenheit, 30° is Cold, in Celsius, 30° is pretty warm, in fact hot if one adds Humidity.
So when the Temperature hits 6°C later this afternoon, it will be comfortable enough to head to the Sacrament of Penance  followed by meeting of a Catholic Fraternal Nature. Tomorrow Evening, I shall head to the Tridentine Latin Mass at Holy Innocents R C Church on West 37th Street in Midtown Manhattan.
It will be the 24th and Last Sunday After Pentecost on Sunday, 11/23/14 for The Tridentine Latin Mass, while on the Novus Ordo Mass, it is Feast of Christ The King. The Last Day of the Roman Catholic Liturgical Year is Saturday, November 29th,While in most of The Byzantine Rite, Friday, November 28th is the Nativity Fast(November 15th on the Julian Calendar), which is Byzantine Advent. Only the Byzantine Rite Melkite Greek Catholic Church goes with December 10th on the Julian Calendar(December 23rd on the Gregorian Calendar), after Celebrating both the Feast of The Immaculate Conception on December 8th(Julian Calendar, which is December 21st on the Gregorian Calendar) & The Feast of St. Anne, Mother of Mary on December 9th(Julian Calendar or December 22nd on the Gregorian Calendar).
In Dates, we speak of Calendars. In One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, we speak in Western and Eastern Calendars. In Seasons, we speak in Temperature Readings and of The Christ, Who is Never Out of Season.

Deo Gratias!
