In 2017, I Won’t Bother With 5th Avenue On March 17th

20 Mar

Since as I remember the “Danger ous 1990s”, when in 1991, with the Assistance of The Dinkins Administration & Ancient Order Of Hibernians Manhattan Division 7, a crew of Quares came into The Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, chanting “We’re Here, We’re Queer, We’re Irish, Get Used To It”, it was only a matter of time before this became The New Practice. I didn’t have ANYTHING to do with this Parade until Y2K.
In Ireland, a Formerly Catholic Nation, the Term called “Quare” means Odd. It is also to signify that one is “Fey” or “Gay.” And in the United Kingdom Of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, “Gay” means “Rubbish.” For “Gay” in the USA AND CANADA means Homosexual.
Fegula is a Latin Word for Homosexual, under the nasty sounding word “Faggot”, a word meaning simply “A Bunch Of Sticks.” The British & Irish smoke what are called “Fags”, which actually are called Cigarettes, a variation of Cigars or “Smoking Sticks.”

The Parade remained relatively Irish Catholic after The 1991 Parade, but there was a Case before the Supreme Court Of The United States of America, whose ruling stated that a Private Group has the Right to choose who they wish to associate with. This covered the Boston & New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parades. This was in 1995. In 1995, the National Ancient Order Of Hibernians ordered the Local & State AOH Groups to set up a corporation to run their local parades as Lawsuits by Homosexual Organizations were taking a grave toll via these lawsuits. Hence, The NYC St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee Inc was founded to run the Parade annually.

Did I NOT say that The 1990s were a Dangerous Time for The Parade? Yes, I did say that and it did prove to be that.

It was in 2014 that Guinness PLC & Heineken, withdrew their Sponsorships until Gay Groups were allowed to march under their own banners. In 2015, Out@NBCUniversal marched under their own banner. In 2016, through the Intervention of Politicians, both Civil & Ecclesiastical(Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, & Pope Francis I), Mayor Bill Di Blasio & Former US Ambassador to The Northern Ireland Peace Accord, Former US Senator George Kilroy Mitchell, the Group, Lavender & Green, joined The Fray.

In The Words of My Most Dear Friend, which I am adopting for 2017, “I Am So Done With This Parade.”

And, for once, I wholeheartedly agree with Mike Voris. This Parade isn’t the Least Bit Catholic, as it has become a Secular Humanist “Mardi Gras”, in exchange for Beer Sponsors.
From after the 1991 Parade until 2000, I wouldn’t have ANYTHING to do with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Here I Go AGAIN!

“K of C Queens County Free Throw Basketball Championship Round III” on YouTube

8 Mar

This was Live Streaming Telecast of The Knights Of Columbus International Free Throw Basketball Championship Round III from Elmhurst, Queens, NY.

What amazes me are those people who tell me that everything should be on You Tube. Are these People somewhat Daft? In 2011, new audiences were found, not only in the USA & Canada, but in Nations where You Tube is blocked. Vimeo and Dailymotion took over in those places. Imagine having Competition Viewers in Iran. The Competitions on Dailymotion & Vimeo had viewers there. You Tube was blacked out in Iran & China.
And Vimeo as well as Dailymotion were watched in The USA.
As for the You Tube Only Crowd, especially the Crowers In Queens Neighborhoods, did any of you even bother to WATCH?

A Catholic Elementary School’s New Lease On Life

5 Nov

Not too far from where I am domiciled, Our Lady Of Cenacle Catholic Elementary School at the Richmond Hill-Kew Gardens, Queens Border, closed in June, 2008. It began in 1950 & was initially staffed by Sisters Of Charity Halifax, and closed with an All Lay Staff of Teachers in 2008.

Let’s just say that what was once staffed by Sisters Of Charity Halifax, is either in Lay Control or is no longer in operation. A good # of these schools have continued to serve the needs of Catholic Elementary School Students.

Our Lady Of Cenacle School is now utilized as the High School Division of the School For Language & Communication, a Non Profit Educational Institution based in Glen Cove, Long Island, NY. This facility is leased from Our Lady Of Cenacle RC Church on the Van Wyck Expressway Service Road. This is a School For Hearing Impaired & Autism Spectrum Students & is Non Sectarian.

At least the School Building is being operated as an Accredited Institute of Learning. And It is a Good Thing.

Deo Gratias!

Plans For LIVE HD Documentary Program

13 Jul

The Title is “Charity Was Here.”
“Charity Was Here” shows 4 Catholic Elementary Schools, with 3 in Queens and 1 in Brooklyn, though the Brooklyn School is about 300 Feet away from the Brooklyn Queens Border.
These 4 Schools have One Order of Nuns in Common, Namely the Sisters Of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul Halifax, NS, Canada.
And it is at these locations that will be focused upon.

The Video Sharing Service will be Veetle on the “aroamingcatholicny” Channel. I am using either of those services because Video Viewers on this service tend to be serious minded people and this service will be live on the web. And High Definition Video actually looks like HD and not like something posted to You Tube to be ignored in favor of both Sensationalism and The Utterly Silly.

It will be 5 Parts and Live and may run awhile.

Frankly, Vatican II had a major effect on the Catholic Faith and The Catholic Schools themselves. The Schools lost the Nuns and Brothers. At least two of the Schools are still Catholic Parish Schools. One is now leased as a high school for Special Needs Children, while one is abandoned(The One In Brooklyn).

It will all be covered here.

In this era of having HD Video Cameras which can fit In one’s pocket, it makes for a Nice, Low Budget Project.

Saturday, 02-05-1980, HCJ Murray Hall

7 Feb

Let me say that all of the Contestants of the Kings Queens Knights Of Columbus International Free Throw Basketball Championship from the abovementioned day and date, are now Middle Aged and in some cases, Grandparents.

The Site on that Historic Morning was Monsignor Murray Hall at Holy Child Jesus Parish in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY.

Funny, but I never even gave this Historic Moment a thought until I was at lunch at a Dominican Coffee Shop on Jamaica Ave in Richmond Hill, Queens.
This was also the Era of BetaMax, Video Cassette Recorders, Cell Phones with PowerPacks and. FAX Machines, Three Major Commercial Broadcast Television Networks and the Non Commercial PBS, & the beginnings of the Phenomena of Public Access Cable Television Channels, both Non Commercial and Commercial. A new cable tv network called Cable News Network, initials CNN, went on the air.
This was a memorable morning for St.Sylvester’s Council #6194, then in the City Line Section of Brooklyn, NY. But, all of the Contestants came from the adjacent Blessed Sacrament Parish, on Euclid Avenue in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn.
There was a problem, in that the Council was located around the corner from the St. Sylvester Parish Complex. That meant extensive doing of business with The Complex. And relations were not always pleasant. In some cases, People in St. Sylvester Based Organizations came to look at Council 6194, as if it was the Ford Foundation & with some arrogance.
At Monsignor Murray Hall, three 6194 Officials were there. It was announced that there would be 16 Boys & Girls going on to the Long Island Final.
Four of them were from St. Sylvester Council 6194. All Four were from Blessed Sacrament Parish, Cypress Hills. Everything short of the “New York, New York”(Frank Sinatra Rendition) Kick Line, the chant of “Blessed Sacrament-Saint Sylvester 6194” erupted at Murray Hall.
But this chant totally infuriated 6194’s Program Director. He was furious because this Greatest 6194 Championship Moment was born from a decision to move the 6194 Competition from Saint Sylvester School to Blessed Sacrament Hall. To much of Council 6194 in 1979-1980 Columbian Year, this was like moving all Mets Home Games to East 161st Street and River Avenue in The Bronx(Yankee Stadium II). That Program Director opposed Awards from Council 6194, unless they were the Certificates which came from the Free Throw Kit. He also decried that “These Children do NOT represent OUR PARISH.”
This whole move to Blessed Sacrament Hall in December, 1979, would not have occurred had Saint Sylvester Sports Officials given full cooperation to the Council Free Throw Chairman, instead of busting his chops at every move. But then, this Competition would not have experienced growth. The Monsignor Sherman Council Knights Of Columbus Version of the Competition, is a Direct Descendent of the 6194 Competition, one I had chaired in 1979, 1980, 1982, 1985 & 1986. So, since I had chaired the Competition for 6194, with chairing Council 5103’s FT I in January, 1992 @ Christ The King High School in Middle Village, Queens, I call the 5103 Competition the 1st Descendent Competition.
Being a Past Grand Knight of Monsignor Sherman Council #5103 Knights Of Columbus in East Glendale, Queens, I looked at this Competition as a way of communicating with the Parishes which we serve across Glendale, East Glendale,Middle Village & Forest Hills in Queens. It was also the intent of the way the 1979 and 1982 6194 Competitions was to communicate with new regions.

In 1994, Jamie Jones, 12 Girls Queens County Champion representing Msgr Sherman Council at the Long Island Final, held at the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point on Long Island Sound. It was a case of 6194 Meets 5103. Watching was Karen Fleming, 1979-80 Downstate Champion, who also won as Kings Queens Champion in 1980-81. Karen’s Sister is Jamie’s Mon. And to think that I was Chairman of those Competitions, brings à tear to my eyes.

Sometimes the Home Base thinks that they are “The Show” and that you can’t do it without them. But, the beauty of the Knights Of Columbus International Free Throw Basketball Championship is the flexibility to hold it in a Gymnasium, Anywhere and Not just the local parish alone. All In All, it is fun.

Next Round is Saturday, 02-06-15@ St.Pancras in Glendale, Queens at 7:00PM EST(8:30PM in Newfoundland).

After 36 Years in the Knights of Columbus, the Competitions remind me of WHY I became a Knight Of Columbus. It makes me feel Young.
