Of Awe & Of All Souls

3 Nov

I have been to All Souls Day Masses in The Ordinary Form of Mass, where the Names of The Faithful Departed would be read in the Litany of The Faithful. I have been to the Mass of The Resurrection(What the Novus Ordo Mass Name for Requiem Mass is called). Protestantism has affected The Sensus Catholicus in such a way that Death, Judgement, Heaven & Hell, are rarely spoken about. Purgatory, in Novus Ordo Land, is almost never spoken about, which Fr Villa Preached in a Brief Homily.
Fr Leonard Villa offered the Mass, aided by The Deacon, Fr Christopher Salvatori, who it has been said, taught many a Priest in The RC Archdiocese of New York, including Fr Villa, to offer The Tridentine Latin Mass. The Subdeacon was an Altar Server named Eddie. In The Roman(Latin) Rite, Subdeacon was an Ordained Order until 1968 when the Sacraments underwent changes.

This is called “Missa Memorium Pro Defunctis”, or Memorial Mass For The Dead. We get the word Defunct from Defunctis, so in reality, the Tridentine Latin Mass is not all that difficult to follow.

There are many chants including “De Profundis”, which the chant “Out of The Depths I Cry Unto Thee, O Lord.”
On the Catervault, a Coffin, covered with a Black Cloth with Religious Marking, is displayed. There were Rites for the Dead, chanted in this ceremony.
At the Conclusion, there was a Procession to the Sacristy.

As This Missa Solemnis occurred The Epistle, Gradual, Tract & Gospel are chanted in Latin, as is the case of the Normal Tridentine Latin Mass.
So to conclude this Mass, the Epistle & Gospel were read in English & the Brief but Incisive Homily was given by Fr Villa. And then we were dismissed. The Theme of November is Prayer For The Souls In Purgatory.

On the way out, I met a Three Compatriots from The Queens Latin Mass Group. It was Grand to meet up with them. One of them brought her son. Last Year at Douglaston, that woman drove me to Woodhaven Blvd and Jamaica Avenue.

A Blessing of a Holy Water Dispenser and Font took place, with Fr Christopher Salvatori celebrating The Blessing, done in Latin, followed by Hyssoping those Present, in the Foyer of Holy Innocents RC Church in Midtown Manhattan on West 37th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue.

It was a Night Of Awe & Prayers For The Dead.

Pray For The Souls In Purgatory, that they be admitted to The Beatific Vision of Heaven.

Deo Gratias!

Missa Requiem Et Metropolitanus Novi Eboraci

31 Oct

I headed via IND E Train to 5th Avenue East 53rd Street to switch to the M Train to W34th Street 6th Avenue, so to go to a Rare Tridentine Missa Pro Defunctis, where the Priest, Deacon & Subdeacon are vested in Black Vestments.
This is a Requiem Mass(You Remember Requiem Masses), not a cheery celebration of a Man’s or Woman’s Life. For the Missa Novus Ordo is Too Humanistic.
Pro Defunctis means “For The Dead”, not “Pro Metropolitanus”(For The NY Mets, Who Defeated the KC Royals at Citi Field 9-3).
The Priest of The RC Archdiocese of New York, offered the Mass alone with Two Servers, both Males, as this is ALWAYS the case at the Tridentine Latin Mass. It was that Great Eastern Catholic Patriarch, St. John Chrysostom, Patriarch of Constantinople, who coined this Gem which applies here:
“Is It Tradition? Ask No More.”

For The Soul Of The Faithful Departed, whether a Member of “Ecclesia Triumphante”(In Paradisium), or “Ecclesia Purgatorio”(The Church Suffering), The Prayer of One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic, is of Fervent Supplication with the Chanting of Litanies, between The Epistle & Gospel. Those Living(Ecclesia Militante or Church Militant), are in Prayer & awed by This Litany. There are NO Guitarists singing a Responsorial Psalm, nor that Novus Ordo “Favorite”, “On Eagles Wings.”

At the end of The Last Gospel(The Incarnation), Father spoke of Our Relationship with God, coming via The Sacraments. He spoke in terms of Sunday’s NYC Marathon.
The Winners Finish The Race, and then they go to the Sidelines to root for the others to finish the race.
The Winners ARE “The Church Triumphant.”
We are NOT in This ALONE. It is NOT merely “Christ Is My Personal Savior”. We must Support One Another to The Ultimate Prize.

Metropolitanus Novi Eboraci Members did that Last Night. David Wright & Curtis Granderson built up and gave this support to The Team. And so did Fanaticae Metropolitanus build up their team, last night.

Deo Gratias!

What Is Rarely Said In Novus Ordo Company

29 May

Sin, Hell and Purgatory are rarely mentioned, including in the Novus Ordo Version of Missa Pro Defunctis. That can also be said of Missa Memoriam in the Novus Ordo.
I was at a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Richmond Hill, Queens, for the Repose of The Soul of the Wife of an Active Member of the Ancient Order Of Hibernians.
It was a Celebration of the Woman’s Life. The Parish Church was packed to the Rafters. Beginning with a Novus Ordo Song, directed for the edification of The Assembly followed by Opening Prayers, it would be an experience not to be forgotten.
Both the “Ave Maria” and “Pie Jesus” were sung with Awe by a Young Lady. But what was Extremely Strange was the Responsorial Psalm, as that was sung to a Guitar, which I have never seen in my life at a Mass Of Christian Burial(Missa Requiem). The Farewell was “On Eagles Wings.”
Many received Holy Communion in the Hand, as it goes with Novus Ordo Territory.
The Neo Canonization is getting ridiculous at these Missae Novus Ordo. Prayer for The Soul of the Faithfully Departed is needed here.
For later in the day at Saint Matthias R C Church was a Tridentine Latin Mass. There, one could truly pray for the Departed’s Immortal Soul.Without Distraction.

The Major Error made in the Revision of The Offertory, was the Removal of The Prayers the Priest said for his Sins as well as for the the Souls of Both Living and Dead.
This was done in the “Spirit Of Vatican II”, so as not to offend Modernist Protestants, in the “False Ecumenism” infecting The Church, for the Last 50 Years, especially since Sunday, November 30th, 1969, when the Novus Ordo Mass was 1st Offered, Bad Translations and All.
In pleasing Modernist, Mainline Protestants, taking the Sacrifice out of The Holy Sacrifice of The Mass, was and still is affecting the Faith of Roman/Latin Rite Catholics until this very day.

1967-The 1st Guitars Are Played At Mass

30 Nov

It was 1967 & The Vietnam War was in full stride. The Tridentine Form Mass in Vulgar Tongue was in use. In fact, everything went to Vulgar Tongue in 1967, except for the Solemn High Mass. In some Parishes, Tables were being used as Altars.
So when I went into the 7th Grade in September, 1967, there were further changes on the Horizon. Two Nuns donned the 1st Novus Ordo Habits. Religion became a mixture of Sociology and Political Science. And at Mass on Sunday, the 1st Guitars were Strummed. The “I, Mine, Me” Muzak reached into The Holy Sacrifice of The Mass in the Roman Rite. Welcome to the World of “The Greenwich Village Coffee House”, only that the Holy Sacrifice of The Mass was the Saving Grace, as this so called “Folk Music” was syrupy dreck. Stately Hymns such as “O Sacrament Most Holy” & “Humbly We Adore Thee”, were being replaced with “Kumbaya”, “Blowin’ In The Wind” and “Sons Of God, Hear His Holy Word”(Which was the 1st Quasi Folk Song to imply that the Novus Ordo Mass was coming, Table and All). And the Music was mostly “I Love Me.”
With the absence of the haunting silence during the Offertory and Consecration, here came the guitars. It was Preparation for what lie ahead, on Sunday, November 30th, 1969.
Then came the New Mass with Abridged Prayers, New Prayers and Modern, more syrupy Music. Fewer people came to Mass. Mass Schedules were cut at Parishes. Lines for The Sacrament of Penance were short. The young people, by and large, stopped going to Mass.

But with the Return of The Tridentine Latin Mass, young people started coming to Mass again.

Ahhh, But, Hope Springs Eternal!

Deo Gratias!

3 to 50/45

6 Nov

This Sunday is the 22nd Sunday After Pentecost. It will also be the 3rd Sunday in the Countdown to The 50th Anniversary of The Partial Vernacularization of The Tridentine Form of Mass, where the Mass was still offered on the High Altar, there were still Holy Communion Rails separating the Sanctuary from the Nave, People still knelt to receive the Body of Christ on one’s tongue, and the Offertory and Consecration Prayers were still in Latin, the Priest faced Liturgical East, with only the Praying of The Last Gospel(The Incarnation) eliminated.  Additions to the Mass included the General Intercessions or Prayers of The Faithful, based on the Byzantine Rite Great Litany of The Divine Liturgies of St John Chrysostom and St Basil The Great. Another Addition, which was abandoned in the 13th Century, is the (Now Ubiquitous) Sign of Peace, which was(& Still Is) optional, which I have since nicknamed “The Martyrs Wave”, because at Weekday Mass at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs R C Church on Queens Boulevard and Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills, Queens, the people, particularly at the 8:00AM Mass, are so spread out, that the people wave to each other. At least they don’t text each other there.

This is also the 45th Anniversary of The Novus Ordo Mass of Paul VI, or “Bugnini’s Masterful De-Romanizing”, which led eventually to an incredible Loss of Faith with its’ De-Emphasis of Sin, along with the accompanying Music, the kind of which one may “Throw Up To.”
There will be a rather comedic “Top 10 List”, in honor of The 45th Anniversary of The Novus Ordo, nicknamed “The NO Mass”, called “Top Ten Rejected Novelties of The Novus Ordo Mass”(From the Home Office in South Amboy, New Jersey).
In order to ensure that the Protestants would feel comfortable coming to the Mass, it would not be called “The Holy Sacrifice of The Mass”, as both Luther and Cranmer objected to Sacrifice, the New Mass would be called “The Lord’s Supper or Mass”, which is what the Heretic Archbishop of Canterbury called his new Liturgy, with emphasis on Meal instead of Sacrifice. The NO Mass would use the same terminology, de-emphasizing The Sacrifice.

Mercifully today, Faithful Catholics have the Tridentine Latin Mass and the Divine Liturgies of The Eastern Catholic Churches, especially in the Byzantine Rite, available. These Most Beautiful Catholic Liturgies emphasize Sacrifice. The Novus Ordo Mass does NOT.

The Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom emphasizes Sacrifice and Supplication and calls The Faithful to Christ in Conversion, as does the Tridentine Latin Mass of Saint Pius V. Our Liturgical Tradition is Rich in Splendor.
So WHY are we collaborating with Heretics?

On The 3rd Night of Black

6 Nov

By the title, it was the 3rd Night that I was at the Tridentine Latin Mass, where it was a Missa Cantata Requiem, also called Missa Pro Defunctis. The Purpose is for The Holy Souls in Purgatory, that they may be brought up to Heaven.
This topic is almost never broached in the Roman Rite Catholic Ordinary Form Mass, where the Emphasis is more “Hic Et Nunc” than “Ad Aeternam.”

Rarely if ever is the Soul mentioned at a Requiem Mass in the Roman Rite Catholic Ordinary Form. It seems to be emphasis on The Community.

For I was at Holy Innocents R C Church both last night and tonight. There is even a special version of The “Agnus Dei” which sings to one’s Soul.
“Agnus Dei, Qui Tollis Peccata Mundi, Dona Eis Requiem…Agnus Dei, Qui Tollis Peccata Mundi, Dona Eis Requiem Aeternam.”

Now, it was on “America’s Got Talent”, some months ago, when 3 Young Men from NYC, sang in Latin “Pie Jesu”. This Hymn, which is usually sung at a Missa Cantata Requiem, is Gregorian Chant and is Awe Inspiring. Two of the Judges are Jewish, namely the Comedian Howie Mandel and Radio Legend Howard Stern. Both were in utter awe when “Pie Jesu” was sung. So was everyone in the audience.

We Roman Catholics hear and sing JUNK way too often. Gregorian Chant is my Rock Music.

Deo Gratias!

Missa Pro Defunctis In Holy Innocents Ecclesiam Romanum

5 Nov

The Youth Movement:
For the Last 50 Years in the USA, Priests have worn White Vestments for Missa Requiem.
As it was last night at the Immaculate Conception Seminary Center in Queens, NY, the Priest this evening wore Black Vestments.
The Average Age for those at The Mass, which was sung, hence it was a Missa Cantata Pro Defunctis Pro Anime Sancta Purgatorio, was in the Late 30s to Early 40s.

One usually sees most of The Elderly at the Novus Ordo Masses. The crowd is younger at the Tridentine Latin Mass. This is why, as David Lane once told me, and Right he is for saying it, that the Tridentine Latin Mass Movement is “The Youth Movement of The Roman Catholic Church.”

Indeed it is.

Deo Gratias!

Removed Altar Rail-“Ouch, My Knees”(Commentary)

4 Nov

The Tridentine Latin Mass meets the NO:
It is interesting when one kneels on a marble floor with NOTHING to push back from. With the “De-Romanizing” of The Roman Rite(29/11/1969), the Altar Rail, which separates the Sanctuary from the Nave, has become as rare as NY Jets Victories in 2014(Now that is rare).
In the effort to make the Roman Rite Catholic Mass feel comfortable to Liturgical Protestants such as Lutherans and Anglicans, since neither has a valid Priesthood, the Roman Catholic Elements of The Liturgy were removed and replaced with such elements as a portable altar with no Saint’s Relic, Mass offered “Versus Populum”(Facing the Congregation, Oh, So Protestant) Standing for Holy Communion(Byzantine Rite Practice), Vernacular Use(both Byzantine Rite and Protestant), Collective Confiteor(Lutheran Version, Romanized, as one of a # of options), Holy Communion Under Both Kinds(Romanized Version of Byzantine Rite Practice), Laity for Sacred Readings(Byzantine Practice, though Reader is not in the Sanctuary in Byzantine Rite), Offertory Prayers not meant to Anticipate the Sacrifice of The Mass by substituting a Passover Table Prayer(Jewish upon Protestant Consultation As Well as Consulting Books by the Catholic Heretic, the Jesuit Teilhard De Chardin),Readings of Three Readings of Old Testament, Responsorial Psalm, New Testament, Psalm and Gospel(Anglican Structure From Anglican “Bishop”), General Intercessions/Prayers of The Faithful(Based on Great Litany of The Byzantine Rite), Opening Prayer of Mass(From Byzantine Rite Opening to Eucharistic Anaphora), Multiple Eucharistic Anaphoras(Byzantine and Antioch Formulae, Romanized), Sign of Peace(Abandoned Roman Rite Practice, mimicry of Byzantine Rite Practice on Forgiveness Sunday just before Great Lent) and the Deletion of The Last Gospel, the Story of The Incarnation. In short, the Roman Rite is practically nonexistent. There is no “Hermeneutic of Continuity.”And the Modernistic “I Love Me” Music, is the kind of Music which you might “Throw Up To.”Gregorian Chant is in Very Few Parishes. The Misuse of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, is a Novel Roman Rite Addition, as are Female Altar Servers. Female Altar Servers are used by the Lutherans and Anglicans, who actually ordain Female Ministers.

Hermeneutic of Continuity? Try Hermeneutic of Modernist Mindset Confusion. The Novus Ordo Mass is certainly NOT Roman. It is a New Rite of Worship, called NOVELTY.Where is Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke when you need him?

And so there was no Altar Rail. My right knee aches. I thank that kind woman, a regular at the Tridentine Latin Mass at St John’s Cemetery Chapel in Middle Village, Queens, for helping me to rise to my feet.
But, all is not lost, for a Corporeal Work of Mercy was done. As this is a Penitential Day, as the Tridentine Calendar calls Monday, November 3rd, 2014, All Souls Day, I offered up the pain in my knees for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. For The Christ suffered on the Cross unto Death, what is a little pain in my knees.

Kyrie Elaison!
