“Buy A MetroCard, You Rocket Scientist”(And A Divine Liturgy)

10 May

I had just disembarqued from the Q54 MTA NYCT Bus @ Metropolitan Avenue & Lefferts Blvd in Kew Gardens, Queens. I thenĀ  hopped on the Q10 MTA Bus.
Then a delay ensued. A Woman got on the Bus and delayed the trip by the Only Means Possible & that is the Inevitable “Search For Change.” Not Only That, she kept talking to the Bus Driver.
This threw my trip plans off for Mass at St. Agnes on East 43rd Street(Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Place) in Midtown Manhattan, by Grand Central Terminal.
Then I spied that this woman was lugging around what appeared to be legal folders in a wheeled pull me bag.
This action added 15 Minutes to the trip, if not more. Combined with a Sunday Subway Schedule, including underground delays involving the IND F 6th Avenue Train, both involving delays entering both 71st Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue, my plans to be at a Tridentine Latin Mass, in Ma’s Memory, were delayed for want of a MetroCard, by someone who prefers to pay bus fare, by searching for exact fare.
Thanks to this Inconsiderate Person, I am probably going Byzantine again, which means that I will remember Ma, in a majestic setting as this is “One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church.”

At 4PM, I will remember Mom at the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, in the Glorious Easter Version at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on East 7th Street in Manhattan’s East Village. According to the Old Julian Calendar, this is the 4th Sunday After Easter.

Kyrie Elaison et Deo Gratias

The Sunday of The Paralytic In Manhattan’s East Village

4 May

In the Byzantine Rite Catholic Churches of The Old Julian Calendar, today is 3rd Sunday after Easter. The Epistle of St. Paul was read in regards to one of the 72 Disciples who was gravely ill, where St. Peter came to the House, & in Christ’s Name, brought the Woman back to life From Death.
In the Gospel According to St. John, There was this Paralytic who had his mat with him, being a Paralytic for 38 Years. The Paralytic asked Jesus to lower him into the water so he could be cured. Jesus simply ordered him to stand up and walk and to take his mat with him. Then Christ asked the man if he wanted to be free of his sins. The man replied that he wanted to be free of his sins.
The Former Paralytic was seen carrying his mat. He was told by One of the Religious Men that he was cured by Jesus. He told it to the Pharisees who whined that Jesus violated The Sabbath by doing work.

Water is a precious resource. In that place in Palestine, as it is Desert, it is scarce.
But Jesus is “The Living Water” and He cured and forgave the Sins of The Paralytic Man, who initially looked at a Natural Resource as his cure. Instead, “The Living Water of Christ” was the cure.

It was a Great Lesson.

Deo Gratias!

The Tridentine Mass & The Sacred Readings(Latin & Byzantine)

3 May

It is said that according to Tradition in the Roman Latin Catholic Church, that Pope Saint Gregory The Great reformed the Latin Liturgy by the Format where the readings are as follows:
Epistle(or Suitable Old Testament Passage), Gradual, Alleluia or Tract and Gospel. This Format is still the case in the Tridentine Latin Mass, still being offered today.

Byzantine Origin:
In his efforts to keep the Church Goers of his day in Constantinople, from 397 AD to 407 AD, from being bored silly, The Patriarch of Constantinople, St. John Chrysostom(Feast Day Ordinary Calendar September 14th, Tridentine Calendar on January 27th), is the Bishop who reformed the Divine Liturgy by Reformating the Sacred Scriptural Readings with Epistle, Gradual, Alleluia, and Gospel and a shorter Anaphora, which still reflects the Divine Liturgy as a Sacrificial Act of Christ through The Priest.

The Format which was discarded by Pope St. Gregory The Great, is familiar to Roman Rite Catholics who go to the Novus Ordo Mass, which is Old Testament(Acts Of The Apostles During Eastertide), Responsorial Psalm, Epistle, Alleluia, Tract(Lenten) & Gospel, which the Lutherans, Anglicans, & Methodists use(in Ancient and Early Middle Ages an extra round of Responsorial Psalms were used).
I pretty well understand why St. John Chrysostom and St. Gregory The Great did their format changes. They wanted the Faithful to understand what was read and that The Eucharist is The Central Action of the Mass or Divine Liturgy.
But, in this Era of False Ecumenism, by adopting a Discarded Format, from 1500 Years Before, only to be taken up by The Protestants, who deny both Sacrifice and Sacred Priesthood, Extra Scripture May be fine for Those who deny that the Bread and Wine are transformed into The Body & Blood, Soul & Divinity of The Christ.
Since Protestants deny the Sacred, Sacrificing Priesthood of Christ, by ordaining Women, in all their Liberalism, to Ministry, they can continue to read Scripture all they want. I want to understand Scripture and read it. WHY is The Roman Rite Catholic Church looking to restore practices which were discarded the 1st Time? Is it to mimicry those who couldn’t care less about The One, True Church?
In the case of The Liturgy of The Presanctified Gifts in both the Latin Church and Eastern Churches, both Catholic & Orthodox, St. Gregory Dialogos is responsible for this. He is also known as Pope St. Gregory The Great.
In the Roman/Latin Rite, The Mass of The Presanctified is on Good Friday, when the Eucharistic Canons are not offered. The Eastern Influence is felt here with the huge number of Litanies chanted.
Particularly in the Byzantine Rite, the Liturgy of The Presanctified is offered once a week and three times during Holy Week & NOT on Good Friday.

Kyrie Elaison!

The Old Julian & New Julian Calendar & Blessed Bread

20 Apr

If I am going to head to Mass This Spring & Summer, especially in regards to Sunday Obligation, it will be to the Tridentine Latin Mass in the Roman/Latin Rite of The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The Silence and Awe is amazing. And so is the Practice of kneeling to receive Holy Communion on one’s Tongue.
But, there is something just as Traditional & Mystical & often in English, Catholic and not in Latin.

I know that statement of Pope St. John Paul II is operational here. “The Church breathes With Both Lungs, Eastern & Western.” Hence, we are in The One, True Church, The One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church, One with Both Eastern & Western Customs but One in Faith & Doctrine.

Hence, Yesterday I was at the Divine Liturgy Of Saint John Chrysostom at the 5PM Saturday Vigil at Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in The Byzantine Rite of The Catholic Church, one In Union with The Holy See & The Whole Church throughout The World. This is part of The Eastern World of The Catholic Church.

This Liturgy is truly “Other Worldly.” The Priest is One who offers Sacrifice, acting “In Persona Christi”, in offering Sacrifice to The Heavenly Father. Most Divine Liturgies have Cantors. This one did not, but was solemn & beautiful.

On The 1st Sunday After Easter, this is called “Sunday Of St. Thomas”, for in This Gospel, The Apostle Thomas was Absent from the Upper Room.
He was told by The Other Apostles that they had seen The Risen Lord. Now Thomas at THIS point is the Only Apostle not to have seen Jesus. He didn’t believe the Account. He had to see for himself.
On The Next Sunday, Jesus again appeared to The Apostles. Jesus invites Thomas to Touch Him in His Side, His Hands & Feet. Up to This Point, Thomas had doubt. After touching These Parts of The Christ, He Who Rose From The Dead, Thomas exclaimed “My Lord & My God”(“Dominus Meus Et Deus Meus”).

For today we have His Church, One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic to Both Teach & Remind us of His Presence on Earth, as He left us 7 Sacraments(Mysteries), which give us His Grace. This is His Church by means there is no other way to Salvation.

Don’t be a “Doubting Thomas.” “Viva El Christo Rey.”

For Christ Gave us & STILL Gives us His Body and Blood, in short, ALL OF HIM, in Holy Communion in HIS Church, both East & West. For I was in The East on Saturday, Early Evening in The Byzantine Rite. It is No Less Catholic than The Roman Rite.
The Byzantine Rite Parishes I have been to, offered Blessed Bread at The End of The Divine Liturgy, which is a Custom. To which I say:

Deo Gratias!

Sunday Of St. Thomas The Apostle(Byzantine)

12 Apr

This is the Second Sunday Of Easter, which is what the Roman Rite Ordinary Form says about today. The Byzantine Rite calls this The Sunday of St. Thomas.
For You see, Thomas, in one of The Gospels, says in relation to Christ “Let US Go With Him so that We may die With Him.” Thomas is also One who asks questions. He established Christianity in India.
In the Tridentine Calendar, This is called The 1st Sunday After Easter. For today, I have decided to head to St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of The Byzantine Rite, praying an Ancient & Venerable Liturgy, The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom since the 4th Century Anno Domini.
No Musical Instruments are ever used in a Byzantine Rite Church so it is A Capella. The singing of Chants & Prayers is done here. There is no chance of anything by Marty Haugen, David Haas or Dan Schutte being sung here. Forget “Table Of Plenty” or “Gift Of Finest Wheat” being sung at this Liturgy
which would cause a revolt, the likes of which one can only imagine.

On To The East Village I must go.

Deo Gratias!

My Most Dear Friend & My Return To Rosarian Tradition

3 Apr

Last evening I had planned to go to The Mass of The Lord’s Supper at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs in Forest Hills, Queens, but I had been researching the Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgies in regards to the Ordinary Form of The Mass.
A little bit later, I began researching Archbishop Annibale Bugnini, Architect of the Novus Ordo Mass, currently called The Ordinary Form of Mass. I had read about His planned “Reform” of The Rosary. In the words of Christopher Ferrara, it was a case of “The New Mass meets The New Rosary.”
I prayed Rosary much in Childhood. But from the Time of the Beginnings of The New Mass, not very often. At Times I thought of it as a Woman’s Prayer. Now I know WHY I often felt “Dry” over the Years.
When I 1st went over to the Byzantine Rite, beautiful Prayers for Holy Mary Theotokos, which means Bearer of The Christ, are part of The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom.
But, with Archbishop Bugnini’s planned “Rosary Reform”, which would have only included the Line”Hail Full of Grace, The Lord is with Thee, Blessed is The Fruit of Thy Womb”, and one Our Father, I was both incensed and THIS moved me to pray 5 Decades of The Joyful Mysteries Last Night. The Joyful Mysteries are Monday & Thursday, The Sorrowful Mysteries are Tuesdays & Fridays & The Glorious Mysteries on Wednesdays & Both Saturday and Sunday.
Now this morning, I was debating as to whether or not to go to the Annual Good Friday Walk between St. Thomas Apostle in Woodhaven & Holy Child Jesus here in Richmond Hill. The Weather is a bit rainy, the threat of Thunderstorms are upon us & the Walk is a chance that one will hear Folk Style Music all morning does not really appeal to me. Much of The Modern Liturgical Music is Utterly Void of being able to be sung and may sound better as Song Parodies, especially at THIS “Woodstock Style Walk.” The only things missing are The Mosh Areas.
So I prayed the 5 Sorrowful Mysteries, meditating on The Passion of Christ, who bore all of Mankind’s Sins. I had Tears in parts of these Mysteries being prayed.
Praying for Catholic and Orthodox Christians who are being massacred by People who profess a False Religion where Violence is a Known Solution, and where Marriage of Children is a Common Practice, whose founder once married a 9 Year Old Girl, makes me wonder about all the False Ecumenism the Vatican II Leadership in The Church are emphasising. Only When The Heretics & Schismatics come to The One True Church, will there be Unity. Our Catholic Brethren are taking a bad beating in The Middle East. Our Catholic Brethren, both Byzantine and Roman Latin, are under threat in Ukraine from Schismatic, Orthodox Russia.
False Ecumenism doesn’t cut it. And it is Time for The Pope, with all The Catholic Bishops, to Consecrate Russia to The Immaculate Heart of Mary, NOT having Prayer Services and Coffee Klatches with Apostates, Heretics & Schismatics. All these People need The Graces of Mary & The Sacraments of The Bride Of Christ, The One True Church, One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church, for Outside of Her, There is No Salvation.
My Most Dear Friend once came to me in all my Bursitis Pain with the words “Jesus Loves You, Jesus Wants Us To Be Friends.”
She had suffered from Lymphoma and sought Heavenly Help. She tried The Rosary about 8 Years Ago. Prior to her coming into The Church from the Greek Orthodox Church in 2012, she prayed the Rosary. This worked a Cure. She came into The Church. She is maturing in her Catholic Faith.
I am hooked.
Deo Gratias!
Santa Maria, Madre De Dios, Ruega Por Nosotros Peccadores, Ahora Y En La Hora, De Nuestra Muerte, Amen.y

EWTN “Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom at the 2013 Napa Institute Conference” on YouTube

2 Apr

Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom at the 2013 Napa Institute Conference:

This is a major Conference of the Catholic Church, Predominantly in the Roman Rite, this Byzantine Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom(Bishop, Confessor, Doctor of The Church, Tridentine Calendar Feast is January 27th in keeping with the Celebration of The Three Holy Hierarchs of The Eastern Catholic Churches of One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church and in the New Liturgical Calendar of the Ordinary Form Mass on September 14th)was offered at the Napa Institute Conference to show the Diversity of Expression in the Liturgies of The Church.
With a Choir, this Timeless Liturgy which is over 1600 Years Old & Older than the Tridentine Latin Mass, is one of Wonder & Awe.
Even without a Choir, it is a Liturgy of Wonder & Awe, for from November 2013 to October of 2014, I went to 23 Ukrainian Byzantine Divine Liturgies offered in English at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the East Village In Manhattan & Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Astoria Queens.
I have to go back to Mass in both locations. I an awed by that Liturgy.
Deo Gratias
