A Touch of Byzantine In Forest Hills

3 Mar

The Prayers of The Faithful, which was added during Vatican II as an update to the 1962 Roman Missal for 1965, had a Prayer for Pope Francis I. The next prayer was during the Consecration Part of The Mass.
Now the Prayers of The Faithful have their origins in the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgies of St. John Chrysostom and St. Basil Martyr, with the response of “Lord Have Mercy”(Kyrie Elaison) being sung. In the St. Basil Liturgy, 2 Prayers are offered for The Pope of Rome and the Bishops. The usual # of Prayers is One in the Latin(Roman)Rite Mass, both Ordinary and Extraordinary Forms of The Mass. This was heard at the Ordinary Form Mass at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church in Forest Hills, Queens.
Hence, a touch of Byzantine was in this Sunday Mass. It had  a Familiar Ring, since I have been to the Byzantine Rite Catholic Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom a total of 6 times.

Kyrie Elaison!
Deo Gratias!

The 1st Snow Flakes Began To Fall on Continental Avenue @ 1730 EST(0030 GMT)

3 Mar

And the Weather is both Cold and Windy. As the Weather began to feel like the Snow could begin at any given time, my plans for heading to the 4PM Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on East 7th Street in the East Village in Manhattan, changed towards heading homeward from Forest Hills.
When about 6 inches of Snow(16 Centimetres) is threatening to ruin NYC Travel over the next 24 Hours, it is best to head home and stay there, safely.
Hence, I am home, monitoring W C B S 880 AM, W I N S 1010 AM and C B C Radio One via Montreal at 88.5 FM, for Snow Reports.  I am “Cabin Fever Boy”, having experienced it so much this winter.
But, Springtime is near, hence Hope.

Deo Gratias!

900 Calls About The Ash Wednesday Schedule

3 Mar

I will say this about the Administrator of Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church in Forest Hills, Queens, NY, Father Francis Passenant-He is rather adept at giving information which will cause one to laugh.
It was the “Parochial Announcements” near the End of The 1PM Mass, in regards to the Ash Wednesday Schedule, when Father advised people to “Please take home the Parish Bulletin, because we get about 900 Calls About the Ash Wednesday Schedule. That way we can hold it down to about 800 calls.”
There was a lot of Truth in this announcement, served up with a Bit of Snark.

Deo Gratias!

He is a Favorite Blog Writer to read on Patheos.com. I also get the added bonus of listening to him on any given Saturday or Sunday at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs in Forest Hills, Queens, NY.
I received Holy Communion at his station by the St. Joseph Shrine at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs, both at the 5PM Saturday Vigil Mass and at the 1PM Mass today.
I liked his Homily yesterday about Trust, which is something very few of us do today. We are becoming a lonely and isolated people.
Fr James Fernandez, the New Brooklyn Diocesan Director of Vocations, offered the 1PM Mass today. He is Welcome Anytime at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church.

Pax Domine Sit Semper Vobiscum!
