I Don’t Recognize Ordinary Time As Catholic

11 Jan

For One Should see the Real Roman Latin Mass Calendar & realise that we are still in The Christmas Cycle.
Wednesday Is Still Baptism Of The Lord & that there are Sundays After Epiphany until Septuagesima Sunday on 01/31/2016, with the Final Christmas Cycle day of February 2nd, The Presentation of The Child Jesus In The Temple.

WE ARE ROMAN/LATIN RITE Catholics, NOT Presbyterians.

THIS Is Epiphany Today, In The 12 Days Of Christmas

6 Jan

Though it was a Gospel Reading of Jesus Christ walking on water, it is part of The Revelation of Christ, as Epiphany means Revelation.
In The Byzantine Rite Catholic Churches, this day is called Theophany, which means Revelation(Those Byzantine Rite Catholic Churches on the Gregorian Calendar, celebrate today, while those on the Julian Calendar, celebrate on January 19th(Gregorian Calendar).

And those of Latino & Mediterranean Heritage, make this the Traditional Day of Gift Giving, symbolizing the Three Magi, who came with Gold, Frankinsense & Myrrh, for The Christ Child.
And with Theophany, Christ is revealed as He is Baptized in The River Jordan(Latin Rite celebrates The Baptism Of The Lord 7 Days After Epiphany, which is Octave Of The Epiphany).
The Traditional End of Christmas is The Feast Of The Presentation of The Child Jesus In The Temple on February 2nd(Candlemas Day).
So Christmastide has a little way to gp in the Latin & Byzantine Rites of One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church.

So, Happy Christmastide!

M X W57 For This & Next Weekend – I Confess

9 May

I like riding above ground on an Elevated Line in Brooklyn on Broadway. The M Train, whose Trunk Line is the IND 6th Avenue Subway Line is operating into Midtown Manhattan. I get to see assorted “Hipsters” in both Bushwick and Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Middle Class Soccer Children, coming from Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, rode back to Manhattan on the M 6th Avenue Weekend Train, with their Fathers. Hipsters got on at Myrtle Wyckoff, Knickerbocker & Central Avenues and all along Broadway in Brooklyn.
Headed over the Williamsburg Bridge(The Hipster Highway), with the M heading underground at Essex Delancey Street Station. Noticed all the people playing with their Smart phones, even underground. I went as far as W34th Street. I had to attend to private business in a Transcendent Atmosphere.
So on W32nd Street between 6th & 7th Avenues. I went down the steps of the Place of Transcendence. The Lower Level was quiet. I then went into a small room & locked the door.

I went to the Sacrament of Penance for this location was St. Francis of Assisi R C Church in Midtown Manhattan. This was the place of Transcendent Quality which was implied above. I confessed my sins & prayed for several people, living & dead.
It was my parents (Ma, D.1994, Dad, D. 2000), who liked going to the Franciscans for the Sacrament of Penance. I drove them there even though I utterly despised driving in Midtown, a place which can unnerve people over several years. They Also introduced me to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills, several years ago.

I decided to head home via Q32, Q53, Q60, Q23 & Q54 Buses. I didn’t want to stay underground. In fact I used the Q54 Bus to Metropolitan Avenue M Terminal to catch the M Train to Manhattan.

And to The Lord God In The Trinity, for all those people mentioned and unmentioned:

Deo Gratias!

Theophany(January 6th, Julian Calendar)

19 Jan

Which is Today, January 19th on the Gregorian Calendar. Theophany was explained on January 11th(Gregorian Calendar), which is December 28th(Julian Calendar) at the 1PM Mass at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs RC Church by Parish Administrator, Rev. Father Francis Passenant, as the Revelation Of The Christ beginning His Public Ministry by being Baptized in The River Jordan by John The Baptist.

On Sunday After Theophany, the Waters are Blessed. I will head to the Saturday Vigil 5PM Divine Liturgy at Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church for both The Divine Liturgy Of St John Chrysostom and Blessing of The Waters. People receive the Hyssoping at this Liturgy, as Real Hyssop is used. People also receive a reminder of their Chrismation via Wand from the Priest.
And since the Divine Liturgy Of St. John Chrysostom can be used to fulfill one’s Catholic Church Sunday Obligations, Holy Communion, under both forms of Body and Blood, via Intinction via Holy Communion Spoon, will be given.

Deo Gratias!

Epiphany-Ordinary Form Mass & Easter Proclamation

5 Jan

Note that according to the Vetus Ordo or Extraordinary Form Mass Calendar, January 6th is still Epiphany and is celebrated particularly in Spanish Speaking Neighborhoods. In Italy, Gifts are exchanged on January 6th. Epiphany in the Roman Rite, Ordinary Form Mass Calendar, is two parts with Baptism Of The Lord In The River Jordan, next Sunday, January 11th, 2015, which marks the End of The Christmas Cycle. Ordinary Time takes over on Monday, January 12th.
In the Extraordinary Form Mass Calendar, the Christmas Cycle ends on Candlemas Day on February 2nd.
On January 6th(December 24th on the Julian Calendar in the Byzantine Rite, both Eastern Orthodox Christians and Byzantine Rite Catholics observe The Nativity Eve Fast, where food is abstained from until the 1st Star Of The Night is seen. The Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom is held about 10:00PM in honor of The Nativity of Christ. On January 7th(December 25th, Julian Calendar), is Christmas Day with Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, in both Eastern Orthodox and Greek Catholic Churches. On Julian Calendar January 1st, which is January 14th on The Gregorian Calendar, The Feast Of St Basil The Great, with Divine Liturgy Of St. Basil The Great being offered. Epiphany, which is called Theophany, with both names commemorating the Revelation of Jesus Christ, is on January 6th, Julian Calendar(January 19th, Gregorian Calendar). Theophany celebrates the Baptism Of The Lord In The River Jordan and the Beginning of The Lord’s Public Ministry. There will be both Sunday Before Theophany and Sunday After Theophany. On The Sunday After Theophany is the Blessing of The Ceremonial Waters. I witnessed this ceremony. The water has herbs added to it. The Water is blessed and the Priest uses actual Hyssop to bless one with Water, reminding one of The Sacrament(Holy Mystery) of Baptism. One is also anointed by the Priest with Chrism to remind one of the Sacrament(Holy Mystery) of Chrismation(Confirmation). The Priest uses a Chrism Wand and anoints one’s forehead.

Fr Joseph Cunningham, Pastor Emeritus of St Gregory The Great in Bellrose, Queens and now Senior Priest In Residence at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs, offered the 1PM Mass. The Easter Proclamation was sung by Noted Writer, Deacon Gregory Kandra.

A Good Crowd was on hand for the 1:15PM Mass.

And Christmastide in the Ordinary Form Mass continues until Next Sunday.

A Joyous Christmastide To All:

Deo Gratias!
