“Happy Easter…..Again”

3 May

“Christ Is Risen”:
“Indeed He Is”;

A Goodly # of The RC Faithful who attend the Tridentine Latin Mass, were planning on heading to what is called “Russian Easter” or “Greek Orthodox Easter.” For Easter on the Old Julian Calendar was late this year. And there are Byzantine Rite Catholic Churches which are on the Old Julian Calendar.
St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Manhattan’s East Village on East 7th Street between The Bowery & 2nd Avenue is where there is a sizeable Ukrainian Population. As many of my Tridentine Latin Mass Compatriots were at the Easter Vigil at St. George or at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, I decided to head to the Easter Sunday 4PM English Language Divine Liturgy.
The Very Reverend Father Bernard Panczuk OSBM, who is Pastor of St. George, was not feeling up to the 4PM Mass, but the Celebrant was good & it turned out to be The Ukrainian Bishop of the Eparchy of Stamford, CT, His Grace, The Most Reverend Paul Patrick Chomicky, a Canadian from British Columbia & One Time Chartered Accountant. He is from the Order of St. Basil The Great(OSBM or Ordo Sancti Basili Magni).
His Deacon was Fr Peter Shyska, the just retired Principal of St. George Academy High School. He preached the Gospel & Homily.

The Day of No:
This is Good & Holy Friday. It is a Day of Mourning for Christ was led to His Death on The Cross. Churches are barren of all decorations.
Yet, Christ descended to the part of Hades, where the Just were held & He freed the Just to take them to Paradisio(Heaven).
Yet, it is Sad because The Apostles were with Him. And Now The Apostles were Alone & Living In Fear.
This is a Day of No Joy because Christ’s Earthly Existence Had come to an End. And it was a Violent End.
And Maria Semper Virgine pondered on this in Her Heart.

Easter is Yes;
For Christ, in His Glorified Body, is Risen from Death. He conquered Death by Death.
Christ Is Risen!
Indeed He Is!
Yes, there is Joy & Not Sadness.

Deo Gratias! It was a Great Divine Liturgy.

At the End of The Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, we were invited up to receive a Special Anointing from Bishop Chomicky, as well as the Blessed Bread(Antidoron).

Parts of The Liturgy were chanted in Ukrainian. There is a new Cantor/Lector named Paul. Bravo to him, he did a great job.

In One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church, there are many Paticular Churches, but only One Church, and Founded By Christ, in Perfect Unity. For Christ told his Apostles & Disciples to go forth to All Nations, Baptising them In The Name of The Father, Son & Holy Ghost.
Christ Promised to be with His Church, until The End of The World.

Chris Is Risen, Indeed He Is.

Pentecost Is Actually 8 Days

20 May

When the Ecclesiastical Calendar went from the Tridentine to Novus Ordo, the Time of Pentecost went from 8 Days to just the Saturday Vigil and Sunday Mass Schedule. The PROTESTANTIZATION of The Roman|Latin Rite of The Catholic Church, would basically be complete. The Day after Pentecost would be the continuation of what began after Baptism of The Lord, namely Ordinary Time, instead of what used to be called Time After Pentecost.

Pentecost, which is Ten Days after Ascension Thursday, used to begin on Saturday with Vigil of Pentecost, followed by Pentecost Sunday and go through into the Saturday before Trinity Sunday. Easter Season ends on That Saturday before Trinity Sunday. Four Days After Trinity Sunday, came The Feast of Corpus Christi. The Sunday after Corpus Christi began the Cycle called Time After Pentecost. It is in October that The Feast Of Christ The King came to be celebrated in All The Churches In Union With The Holy See.

For those who practice by The Tridentine Calendar, Pentecost Is An Octave, like Easter and Christmas.
When the Calendar Change to Novus Ordo occurred, Blessed Paul VI went to celebrate The Mass Of The Octave of Pentecost. What surprised him unto the point of Crying, was that in addition to the New Mass, Bugnini & Company came up with a Totally New Liturgical Calendar.
The Gutting of The Calendar of The Roman|Latin Rite was Complete. Thus, the Era of The Novus Ordo was in full swing.

The Church has not been the Same, but is going through Her Passion. These past 45 Years have caused many Parishes and Schools to fold up.

It’s Sad.

But with the Resumption of the Tridentine Latin Mass, albeit on a Limited Basis, some sense of Solemnity and Sanity will keep One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, continues. The Eastern Catholic Churches are holding The Fort. They, along with The Tridentine Latin Mass, represent Tradition.

“Christ Is Risen, Indeed He Is”(Byzantine Ukrainian Catholics)

13 Apr

So speaketh the Very Reverend Father Bernard Panczuk, Pastor of St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, at the Sunday 4PM Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. For Today, Christ is Risen & Today is Easter Sunday in both the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches on the Old Byzantine Calendar, as well as for those Churches of the Roman/Latin Rite when these Western Churches are in a Byzantine Rite Majority Region.

The Gospel According to St. John The Apostle, was that of The Story of The Incarnation(And The Word Was Made Flesh). Those of you who go rather frequently to The Tridentine Latin Mass, know this Gospel, because it is recited by the Priest at the End of The Tridentine Latin Mass. Latins do genuflect at the phrase ” And The Word was made Flesh.”
And so, in the Words of Remnant Editor Mr Michael Matt, I “took a knee” at the words “& The Word Was Made Flesh.”

Those of You who often go to the Tridentine Latin Mass(T L M)@ Holy Innocents & St. Agnes, particularly at Holy Innocents, have knowledge of the Byzantine Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, especially the Catholic Version at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on East 7th Street. It is on East 7th Street at 2nd Avenue where a serious building collapse occurred about a week ago. Strange but more People have been going to Liturgies at St. George. It is a Great Sign for the Parish.

There is No Holy Communion “A Mano”, here. Those of you who frequent the “Missa Novus Ordo” with Holy Communion being placed in your right hand, well, just like at the T L M, it will not occur at the Divine Liturgy.
Unlike in the “Missa Novus Ordo”, There is no Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion holding a Chalice. Only the Priest may distribute Holy Communion. The Sacrament is by Intinction and distributed to Communicants using a Gold Plated Communion Spoon.

This Easter Celebration this Year is the 1st Time I have celebrated Easter Sunday Bi-Ritually. Last Week, it was the Saturday Night Tridentine Latin Easter Vigil. This Week it is the Byzantine Rite Catholic Easter Divine Liturgy.

After receiving The Most Blessed Sacrament of The Altar, both Body and Blood, my eyes welled up with Tears, as I returned to the Pew.

A Farewell Blessing by Anointing, to remind The Faithful of The Sacraments of Initiation(Baptism & Chrismation[Confirmation to Those Faithful From The Roman/Latin Rite]) was done by a Visiting Priest, as this Divine Liturgy was concelebrated at St. George. The Blessed(Not Consecrated) Bread, which in Greek is called Antidoron, was given upon request. This is the only known Time of The Liturgical Year that this is done in This Parish.

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Sunday Of St. Thomas The Apostle(Byzantine)

12 Apr

This is the Second Sunday Of Easter, which is what the Roman Rite Ordinary Form says about today. The Byzantine Rite calls this The Sunday of St. Thomas.
For You see, Thomas, in one of The Gospels, says in relation to Christ “Let US Go With Him so that We may die With Him.” Thomas is also One who asks questions. He established Christianity in India.
In the Tridentine Calendar, This is called The 1st Sunday After Easter. For today, I have decided to head to St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of The Byzantine Rite, praying an Ancient & Venerable Liturgy, The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom since the 4th Century Anno Domini.
No Musical Instruments are ever used in a Byzantine Rite Church so it is A Capella. The singing of Chants & Prayers is done here. There is no chance of anything by Marty Haugen, David Haas or Dan Schutte being sung here. Forget “Table Of Plenty” or “Gift Of Finest Wheat” being sung at this Liturgy
which would cause a revolt, the likes of which one can only imagine.

On To The East Village I must go.

Deo Gratias!

Easter Vigil The Tridentine Latin Mass & Reception

7 Apr

For 2 Hours and 42 Minutes beginning at 9:08PM, EDT and ending at 11:50PM, EDT in Midtown Manhattan, the Easter Vigil Tridentine Latin Mass, I do say, is a Different Perspective from the Easter Vigil Novus Ordo Mass.
“Dominus Vobiscum” opened this Liturgy, with the 1st Words spoken by the Congregation were “Et Cum Spiritu Tuo.”
It was a Time of Both Prayer & Education. For when I was in the Lower Grades of St. Sylvester School on Grant Avenue In the City Line Section of Brooklyn, several years before the Novus Ordo Phenomenon, Schoolchildren were mandated to attend the 9:00AM Mass. There was a 3 Hour Fast before Holy Communion, where Water or Medicine could be taken anytime up to Holy Communion. Other Liquids required a 1 Hour Fast before Holy Communion. On Christmas, Easter & during the Summer, one could attend any Sunday Mass. At Christmas, provided One was with an Adult, one could go to Midnight Mass. In those earlier Times of the Easter Vigil Tridentine Latin Mass, in the Early 1960s, that Mass was at Midnight.

There is Nothing but Solemnity here, no cornball responses written by a Modernist Religious Education Director, who could turn Solemnity into a proverbial tribute to Bozo The Clown. As I went to a Novus Ordo Easter Vigil Mass for all of these years, The 1st Part during the Service of Old Testament Readings, the response was written as if one was in Second Grade, if that at all. I wondered why this particular Easter Vigil did not have a Full House. Perhaps, Adults do not feel like being made to feel that they are Second Graders in some Modernist, Novus Ordo, “Catholic” School. There, the Music Director, One trained in Classical Style & Substance(Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Handel, Et Cetera), is forced not to make this Liturgy into a Masterpiece. Rather, he is forced to play this Director of Religious Education’s Mandated Trite Tripe, in order to pacify the 1970s Indoctrinated Gang of Five’s Choices, which please nobody but “The Gang Of Five Modernists, who prefer Trite Tripe to Bach.” The “Gang of Five Modernists” always say that this is done “For The Children”, which makes me wonder if “The Gang Of Five Modernists” have grown up YET. This takes place in an Upper Class Queens Neighborhood where it took about 7 Weeks to finally catch up with much of the Rest of The Church with the correct response of “And With Your Spirit”, instead of “And Also With You.”

I was praying the Glorious Mysteries of The Rosary(Rosarium, which means “Crown Of Flowers”), in anticipation of the 7:30PM Easter Vigil Liturgy at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs in Forest Hills. When I was finished, I was overcome with a Desire to be at an Easter Vigil not in Queens but in Holy Innocents in Manhattan, in Latin, in The Tridentine Way.
And so I readied myself to head to Holy Innocents. I went over to Jamaica Avenue & 130 Street to catch the Q56 Bus to Lefferts Blvd to catch the Q10 Bus to the end of the line at Kew Gardens Road & Queens Blvd, grabbed myself a snack and headed onto the F Train at Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens for the ride to West 34th Street-Herald Square.
The F Train, normally runs Express along Queens Blvd, but due to track work, it went Local into West 34th Street. I then headed for two blocks from the W35 Street Exit to W37th Street and made it to Holy Innocents, with time to make it to the Men’s Toilet.
Then I proceeded up the Church Steps & to a seat.
At 9:08PM, E D T, The Easter Vigil Began. It was Heavenly to say the Least.

This is an Educational and Holy Experience, as the Baptismal Font and Waters are blessed during The Service prior To the Holy Sacrifice of The Mass. The Priest wears a Lavender Alb and Stole during the Service. When The Actual Holy Sacrifice of The Mass begins with The “Gloria In Excelsis Deo”, The Priest switches to Golden Chasuble.
There is awe and wonder, for Christ Is Risen. In the New Mass, The Baptisms & Confirmations are done In the Mass portion as well as any Professions of Faith(For Those Coming From The Eastern Churches NOT IN Communion With One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church).
In The Holy Communion, all kneel and receive the Body of Christ on one’s tongue. The Altar Server places a Paten under one’s Jaw to keep particles of the Host from falling on the floor, as all particles of The Body of Christ are The Body of Christ. There is no Holy Communion in the Hand here.

The Final Blessing & Dismissal occurs and the Mass actually dismisses after the Reading of The Last Gospel According to St. John. There is One Genuflection, at these words “The Word Was Made Flesh.” This is The Story of The Incarnation.

Afterwards, there was a Reception in The Basement of Holy Innocents where we were fed and refreshed.
Then It was time to head home. I got Home by 3:50 AM & rested. Trust Me, I needed the sleep.

Happy Pascua!

2100 Hours(9PM EDT) Easter Vigil Mass In Latin Holy Innocents

4 Apr

I can always go to OLQM Forest Hills on. Easter Sunday Mass at the 11:30AM High Mass, but I am going to be heading to Holy Innocents on W37th Street for the 9PM Easter Vigil Mass in Latin. I have never been to the Easter Vigil in Tridentine Form before. This is my 1st Ever Time. I was way too young when the Easter Vigil Mass was in Latin.

As David Layne once said to me outside of St. Agnes East 43rd Street Midtown after the 11:00AM Sunday Tridentine Latin Mass, that “The Latin Mass is The Youth Movement of The Catholic Church”, hence it is time to experience that Youth Movement.

Thank You Mother Mary, Queen of Heaven & Earth.

My Most Dear Friend & My Return To Rosarian Tradition

3 Apr

Last evening I had planned to go to The Mass of The Lord’s Supper at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs in Forest Hills, Queens, but I had been researching the Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgies in regards to the Ordinary Form of The Mass.
A little bit later, I began researching Archbishop Annibale Bugnini, Architect of the Novus Ordo Mass, currently called The Ordinary Form of Mass. I had read about His planned “Reform” of The Rosary. In the words of Christopher Ferrara, it was a case of “The New Mass meets The New Rosary.”
I prayed Rosary much in Childhood. But from the Time of the Beginnings of The New Mass, not very often. At Times I thought of it as a Woman’s Prayer. Now I know WHY I often felt “Dry” over the Years.
When I 1st went over to the Byzantine Rite, beautiful Prayers for Holy Mary Theotokos, which means Bearer of The Christ, are part of The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom.
But, with Archbishop Bugnini’s planned “Rosary Reform”, which would have only included the Line”Hail Full of Grace, The Lord is with Thee, Blessed is The Fruit of Thy Womb”, and one Our Father, I was both incensed and THIS moved me to pray 5 Decades of The Joyful Mysteries Last Night. The Joyful Mysteries are Monday & Thursday, The Sorrowful Mysteries are Tuesdays & Fridays & The Glorious Mysteries on Wednesdays & Both Saturday and Sunday.
Now this morning, I was debating as to whether or not to go to the Annual Good Friday Walk between St. Thomas Apostle in Woodhaven & Holy Child Jesus here in Richmond Hill. The Weather is a bit rainy, the threat of Thunderstorms are upon us & the Walk is a chance that one will hear Folk Style Music all morning does not really appeal to me. Much of The Modern Liturgical Music is Utterly Void of being able to be sung and may sound better as Song Parodies, especially at THIS “Woodstock Style Walk.” The only things missing are The Mosh Areas.
So I prayed the 5 Sorrowful Mysteries, meditating on The Passion of Christ, who bore all of Mankind’s Sins. I had Tears in parts of these Mysteries being prayed.
Praying for Catholic and Orthodox Christians who are being massacred by People who profess a False Religion where Violence is a Known Solution, and where Marriage of Children is a Common Practice, whose founder once married a 9 Year Old Girl, makes me wonder about all the False Ecumenism the Vatican II Leadership in The Church are emphasising. Only When The Heretics & Schismatics come to The One True Church, will there be Unity. Our Catholic Brethren are taking a bad beating in The Middle East. Our Catholic Brethren, both Byzantine and Roman Latin, are under threat in Ukraine from Schismatic, Orthodox Russia.
False Ecumenism doesn’t cut it. And it is Time for The Pope, with all The Catholic Bishops, to Consecrate Russia to The Immaculate Heart of Mary, NOT having Prayer Services and Coffee Klatches with Apostates, Heretics & Schismatics. All these People need The Graces of Mary & The Sacraments of The Bride Of Christ, The One True Church, One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church, for Outside of Her, There is No Salvation.
My Most Dear Friend once came to me in all my Bursitis Pain with the words “Jesus Loves You, Jesus Wants Us To Be Friends.”
She had suffered from Lymphoma and sought Heavenly Help. She tried The Rosary about 8 Years Ago. Prior to her coming into The Church from the Greek Orthodox Church in 2012, she prayed the Rosary. This worked a Cure. She came into The Church. She is maturing in her Catholic Faith.
I am hooked.
Deo Gratias!
