M X W57 For This & Next Weekend – I Confess

9 May

I like riding above ground on an Elevated Line in Brooklyn on Broadway. The M Train, whose Trunk Line is the IND 6th Avenue Subway Line is operating into Midtown Manhattan. I get to see assorted “Hipsters” in both Bushwick and Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Middle Class Soccer Children, coming from Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, rode back to Manhattan on the M 6th Avenue Weekend Train, with their Fathers. Hipsters got on at Myrtle Wyckoff, Knickerbocker & Central Avenues and all along Broadway in Brooklyn.
Headed over the Williamsburg Bridge(The Hipster Highway), with the M heading underground at Essex Delancey Street Station. Noticed all the people playing with their Smart phones, even underground. I went as far as W34th Street. I had to attend to private business in a Transcendent Atmosphere.
So on W32nd Street between 6th & 7th Avenues. I went down the steps of the Place of Transcendence. The Lower Level was quiet. I then went into a small room & locked the door.

I went to the Sacrament of Penance for this location was St. Francis of Assisi R C Church in Midtown Manhattan. This was the place of Transcendent Quality which was implied above. I confessed my sins & prayed for several people, living & dead.
It was my parents (Ma, D.1994, Dad, D. 2000), who liked going to the Franciscans for the Sacrament of Penance. I drove them there even though I utterly despised driving in Midtown, a place which can unnerve people over several years. They Also introduced me to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills, several years ago.

I decided to head home via Q32, Q53, Q60, Q23 & Q54 Buses. I didn’t want to stay underground. In fact I used the Q54 Bus to Metropolitan Avenue M Terminal to catch the M Train to Manhattan.

And to The Lord God In The Trinity, for all those people mentioned and unmentioned:

Deo Gratias!

No Thank You MTLOA(Sed Deo Gratias) With Humor

3 May

The Ever Contemptible Metropolitan Transportation Lack of Authority, a Bondholder Benefit Boondoggle Corporation for The Southeastern Part of The State of New York, governed by The Apostate Catholic, Andrew Cuomo, whose Lifetime Membership in The Archbishop Molloy High School Hall of Fame should be revoked forthwith, has found ways to prevent Practicing Traditionalist Roman/Latin Catholics and NY Mets Fans(A Good Number of Whom are Both), from arriving at their planned destinations.
I was unable to arrive at St. Agnes East 43rd Street on time, due to The IRT Lexington Avenue Local being diverted downtown on The Express Track. The 7 Train was also rerouted through a Bottleneck at Vernon Boulevard & Jackson Avenue Station in Long Island City In Queens. NY Mets Fans are in for a rough ride to Citi Field as I speak.

“Sed Libera Nos A Missa Nova”(But Deliver Us From The New Mass):
Since I am in no mood to sing “Gloria In Excelsis Deo” in English, to the Opening Theme Song of the Cartoon, “My Little Pony” & since having gone to Tridentine Latin Mass of The Roman Missal of 1962, by returning to the venerable form In 2007, I have met people who recommended The Byzantine Rite and the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom(Bishop, Confessor, and Doctor of The Church, With Feasts on both the Novus Ordo & Tridentine Calendars in the Roman/Latin Rite).

“Streecha”
Only on weekends is this charming little cafe’ open. For US$5, I was fed reasonably well. St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church owns & operates this cafe’.

I AM diagonally across East 7th Street in Manhattan’s East Village from Mc Soreley’s Ale House. At 4PM, in English, the Divine Liturgy will commence as 3rd Sunday After Easter in the Julian Calendar.
There are no organs played here. In fact as is Byzantine Practice, The Human Voice is the only musical instrument allowed. There is often a choir. Monophonic Chant is sung here. And there are no Parish Liturgy Committees here. You know the definition of Parish Liturgy Committee is a group of People, involved in the Novus Ordo Parish, who think in terms of “Enhancing” the Mass with “Music”(Songs of Self, of the Treacly Variety, which are sometimes known to induce Vomiting, with long lines at what My Most Dear Friend calls the Vomitarium, usually in the Mens’ & Ladies’ Toilets). Another thing in this world of “Inculturation” is that most of these people have far less training in Music than an Organ Grinder With His/Her Monkey. Traditionalists do not travel long distances to hear The “Gregorian Chant Version” of “The Anthem” by Tom Conry which could be used instead of Waterboarding to get information out of War Prisoners at Gitmo(Ditto, Any Gregorian Chant Version of Any Song by Dan Schutte or Marty Haugen). The Geneva Convention May permit it for sheer laughter. In reality, it would be called “Gagorian  Chant.” The Titular Archbishop of The See of Bababuis, Howard “Cardinal” Stern, would issue an Anathema For This.

For I Thank The Lord for leading me to this Eastern Catholic Oasis in Manhattan’s East Village, to pray The Litanies. It is a deep form of Prayer, This Divine Liturgy.

Deo Gratias

Easter Vigil The Tridentine Latin Mass & Reception

7 Apr

For 2 Hours and 42 Minutes beginning at 9:08PM, EDT and ending at 11:50PM, EDT in Midtown Manhattan, the Easter Vigil Tridentine Latin Mass, I do say, is a Different Perspective from the Easter Vigil Novus Ordo Mass.
“Dominus Vobiscum” opened this Liturgy, with the 1st Words spoken by the Congregation were “Et Cum Spiritu Tuo.”
It was a Time of Both Prayer & Education. For when I was in the Lower Grades of St. Sylvester School on Grant Avenue In the City Line Section of Brooklyn, several years before the Novus Ordo Phenomenon, Schoolchildren were mandated to attend the 9:00AM Mass. There was a 3 Hour Fast before Holy Communion, where Water or Medicine could be taken anytime up to Holy Communion. Other Liquids required a 1 Hour Fast before Holy Communion. On Christmas, Easter & during the Summer, one could attend any Sunday Mass. At Christmas, provided One was with an Adult, one could go to Midnight Mass. In those earlier Times of the Easter Vigil Tridentine Latin Mass, in the Early 1960s, that Mass was at Midnight.

There is Nothing but Solemnity here, no cornball responses written by a Modernist Religious Education Director, who could turn Solemnity into a proverbial tribute to Bozo The Clown. As I went to a Novus Ordo Easter Vigil Mass for all of these years, The 1st Part during the Service of Old Testament Readings, the response was written as if one was in Second Grade, if that at all. I wondered why this particular Easter Vigil did not have a Full House. Perhaps, Adults do not feel like being made to feel that they are Second Graders in some Modernist, Novus Ordo, “Catholic” School. There, the Music Director, One trained in Classical Style & Substance(Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Handel, Et Cetera), is forced not to make this Liturgy into a Masterpiece. Rather, he is forced to play this Director of Religious Education’s Mandated Trite Tripe, in order to pacify the 1970s Indoctrinated Gang of Five’s Choices, which please nobody but “The Gang Of Five Modernists, who prefer Trite Tripe to Bach.” The “Gang of Five Modernists” always say that this is done “For The Children”, which makes me wonder if “The Gang Of Five Modernists” have grown up YET. This takes place in an Upper Class Queens Neighborhood where it took about 7 Weeks to finally catch up with much of the Rest of The Church with the correct response of “And With Your Spirit”, instead of “And Also With You.”

I was praying the Glorious Mysteries of The Rosary(Rosarium, which means “Crown Of Flowers”), in anticipation of the 7:30PM Easter Vigil Liturgy at Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs in Forest Hills. When I was finished, I was overcome with a Desire to be at an Easter Vigil not in Queens but in Holy Innocents in Manhattan, in Latin, in The Tridentine Way.
And so I readied myself to head to Holy Innocents. I went over to Jamaica Avenue & 130 Street to catch the Q56 Bus to Lefferts Blvd to catch the Q10 Bus to the end of the line at Kew Gardens Road & Queens Blvd, grabbed myself a snack and headed onto the F Train at Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens for the ride to West 34th Street-Herald Square.
The F Train, normally runs Express along Queens Blvd, but due to track work, it went Local into West 34th Street. I then headed for two blocks from the W35 Street Exit to W37th Street and made it to Holy Innocents, with time to make it to the Men’s Toilet.
Then I proceeded up the Church Steps & to a seat.
At 9:08PM, E D T, The Easter Vigil Began. It was Heavenly to say the Least.

This is an Educational and Holy Experience, as the Baptismal Font and Waters are blessed during The Service prior To the Holy Sacrifice of The Mass. The Priest wears a Lavender Alb and Stole during the Service. When The Actual Holy Sacrifice of The Mass begins with The “Gloria In Excelsis Deo”, The Priest switches to Golden Chasuble.
There is awe and wonder, for Christ Is Risen. In the New Mass, The Baptisms & Confirmations are done In the Mass portion as well as any Professions of Faith(For Those Coming From The Eastern Churches NOT IN Communion With One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church).
In The Holy Communion, all kneel and receive the Body of Christ on one’s tongue. The Altar Server places a Paten under one’s Jaw to keep particles of the Host from falling on the floor, as all particles of The Body of Christ are The Body of Christ. There is no Holy Communion in the Hand here.

The Final Blessing & Dismissal occurs and the Mass actually dismisses after the Reading of The Last Gospel According to St. John. There is One Genuflection, at these words “The Word Was Made Flesh.” This is The Story of The Incarnation.

Afterwards, there was a Reception in The Basement of Holy Innocents where we were fed and refreshed.
Then It was time to head home. I got Home by 3:50 AM & rested. Trust Me, I needed the sleep.

Happy Pascua!

MTA NYCTransit-Going Out of Your Way

13 Nov

It certainly feels like that.
Bus arrives at Williamsburg Bridge Bus Terminal at the Foot of The Williamsburg Bridge, discharges one customer and goes out of service. Then there is an extra 30 Minutes of waiting.

No Fun for me, but used the NYC Bus App for Android, so I tracked the next bus.

I’m on it, the Q54 Bus on Metropolitan Avenue and headed homeward.

Deo Gratias!

In NYC, Eastern Catholic Churches Of Note

16 Sep

One will hear the cries of Catholics, but to most Americans, they are of the Mindset of Catholics who think in terms of The Roman Rite(Your Local Parish).
If you hear names like Maronite, Melkite Greek and Syriac, fear not because these Particular Eastern Churches are as Catholic as your local Roman Rite Catholic Parish.

I feel Blessed to live in NYC, as there are a number of Eastern Catholic Churches in Brooklyn and Queens. The Armenian Eparchy for North America is located on North 6th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A couple of Blocks away is Holy Ghost Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on North 5th Street. The BMT 14th Street Canarsie Train stops at Bedford Avenue North 7th Street, and is in walking distance of both the Armenian Catholic Church and Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

In Brooklyn Heights, The Eparchy of Brooklyn For The Maronites with Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral is at Remsen and Henry Streets in Brooklyn Heights, within walking distance of The Clark Street IRT Subway station and the High Street Brooklyn Bridge IND Subway station. So in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, two major Eastern Church Sees are located.

The Heart or Epicenter of New York’s Ukrainian Catholic Community is St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on East 7th Street in the East Village in Manhattan. They have a Sunday Divine Liturgy at 4PM in English. In the Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, one will really begin to understand both the Tridentine Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo Mass from going to the Liturgy. It is truly beautiful. Take the IRT Subway to Astor Place Station and walk to 3rd Avenue and East 7th Street and walk to Taras Schevshenko Place and you will find the Church, built in Greek Style with Onion Dome. The Liturgy takes longer than the Ordinary Form Mass, but is truly beautiful and intense. By The Way, there is no organist and, best of all, no Marty Haugen Music. You will sing prayers and responses. If you are a Tridentine Latin Mass Type, you will really appreciate the Divine Liturgy.
Some blocks away at East 15th Street and 2nd Avenue, St. Mary’s Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic Church has a 10AM Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom. Take the BMT 14th Street Line to 3rd Avenue and walk over a couple of blocks. Also reachable by Southbound M15 Bus to East 14th Street and 2nd Avenue, as well as M14D Bus to East 14th Street and 2nd Avenue.

The MTA NYCT Bus Lines Are Non Coopetators

2 Sep

It is a Good Thing that I have NYC Bus Time because MTA NYCT Bus follows no schedule.
The Bus called Q54 was 8 Minutes away and took 40 Long, Sweaty Minutes to arrive, hence I was unable to make it to my Subway Connection to Holy Innocents in Midtown Manhattan.

Truly a Corrupt way to run a Bus Line!
