“Happy Easter…..Again”

3 May

“Christ Is Risen”:
“Indeed He Is”;

A Goodly # of The RC Faithful who attend the Tridentine Latin Mass, were planning on heading to what is called “Russian Easter” or “Greek Orthodox Easter.” For Easter on the Old Julian Calendar was late this year. And there are Byzantine Rite Catholic Churches which are on the Old Julian Calendar.
St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Manhattan’s East Village on East 7th Street between The Bowery & 2nd Avenue is where there is a sizeable Ukrainian Population. As many of my Tridentine Latin Mass Compatriots were at the Easter Vigil at St. George or at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, I decided to head to the Easter Sunday 4PM English Language Divine Liturgy.
The Very Reverend Father Bernard Panczuk OSBM, who is Pastor of St. George, was not feeling up to the 4PM Mass, but the Celebrant was good & it turned out to be The Ukrainian Bishop of the Eparchy of Stamford, CT, His Grace, The Most Reverend Paul Patrick Chomicky, a Canadian from British Columbia & One Time Chartered Accountant. He is from the Order of St. Basil The Great(OSBM or Ordo Sancti Basili Magni).
His Deacon was Fr Peter Shyska, the just retired Principal of St. George Academy High School. He preached the Gospel & Homily.

The Day of No:
This is Good & Holy Friday. It is a Day of Mourning for Christ was led to His Death on The Cross. Churches are barren of all decorations.
Yet, Christ descended to the part of Hades, where the Just were held & He freed the Just to take them to Paradisio(Heaven).
Yet, it is Sad because The Apostles were with Him. And Now The Apostles were Alone & Living In Fear.
This is a Day of No Joy because Christ’s Earthly Existence Had come to an End. And it was a Violent End.
And Maria Semper Virgine pondered on this in Her Heart.

Easter is Yes;
For Christ, in His Glorified Body, is Risen from Death. He conquered Death by Death.
Christ Is Risen!
Indeed He Is!
Yes, there is Joy & Not Sadness.

Deo Gratias! It was a Great Divine Liturgy.

At the End of The Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, we were invited up to receive a Special Anointing from Bishop Chomicky, as well as the Blessed Bread(Antidoron).

Parts of The Liturgy were chanted in Ukrainian. There is a new Cantor/Lector named Paul. Bravo to him, he did a great job.

In One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church, there are many Paticular Churches, but only One Church, and Founded By Christ, in Perfect Unity. For Christ told his Apostles & Disciples to go forth to All Nations, Baptising them In The Name of The Father, Son & Holy Ghost.
Christ Promised to be with His Church, until The End of The World.

Chris Is Risen, Indeed He Is.

The Feast Of St. Mark Evangelist, Russian Easter & Prayers For Michael Voris

27 Apr

I was at the Missa Solemnes of The Feast Of St Mark Evangelist at HOLY INNOCENTS, last evening.
It was the 6PM Tridentine Latin Mass, which was a Solemn High Mass, with Priest, Deacon & Subdeacon.
For you see, St. Mark Evangelist is one of The 4 Evangelists who wrote Gospels. St. Mark Evangelist established the See & Rite of Alexandria, Egypt in The Catholic Church.
The Celebrant Priest was the Pastor of Holy Innocents, Fr Leonard Villa, assisted by Deacon, who is a Priest of The RC Archdiocese of New York & The Subdeacon was played by Eddy Toribo, who is a Sacristan, who emails me with various Holy Innocents Parish Events.
The Epistle was The Prophet Exichiel:
Four Men become as Eagles, Moved by The Holy Ghost to wherever they are needed.
The Roman Graduale was sung.
The Alleluia was sung.
Eddy Toribo proclaimed in Latin, the Epistle which was Old Teatament.
The Gospel according to St. Luke Evangelist was proclaimed in Latin by The Deacon. This was the Time when Christ commissioned 72 Disciples to go forth and Preach The Good News. Everyone worked in pairs.
The Homily was given by Fr Leonard Villa, who read both the Epistle & Gospel in English & spoke of St. Mark.
Holy Communion is kneeling at a Holy Communion Rail and receiving on one’s tongue from a Priest or Deacon. There is no standing & receiving Christ as if He was a Cocktail Snack.
“Faith Of Our Fathers” was sung as Priest, Deacon & Subdeacon were leaving the Sanctuary.

Prayers were offered for Michael Voris & his Enemies.

Talk took place among Catholic Trads about where to celebrate “Russian Easter.” One woman Trad talked about St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on East 7th Street in the East Village. This is a Catholic Church of The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Eparchy of Stamford, CT. I have often gone there for the Sunday, 4:00PM Divine Liturgy in English. I just have to find out the Starting Time for The Divine Liturgy. I have to experience this Liturgy. Or I can do this at Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Astoria, Queens. Both are Old Calendar(Julian)Catholic Churches.

By the Way, Fr Villa spoke of “The Old Evangelization. Let’s all share the Faith of The Fathers.

Deo Gratias!

EWTN”Knights of Columbus 133rd Supreme Convention Wednesday Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom”

25 Apr

I may be from The Roman/Latin Rite of One, Holy Catholic & Apostolic Church, but, Any Time I have attended a Byzantine Rite Catholic Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom(Doctor of The Church), I am INTENSELY Moved.

EWTN carried this Broadcast of The Byzantine Rite Catholic Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom(Bishop, Confessor & Doctor Of The Church) as part of The 133rd Supreme Convention of The Knights Of Columbus from Philadelphia, PA. The Prime Celebrant was Ukrainian Greek Catholic Archbishop Stefan Soroka of the Archeparchy of Philadelphia. There were many Priests, both Ukrainian and Latin Rite.
This is a Catholic Liturgy which I am most familiar with. Add The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Honour Guard, and this becomes so solemn. Let me say that, while it is sung in English, with some Old Slavonic & Ukrainian added, it has more of The Feel of The Tridentine Latin Mass, as The Priest faces Eastward.
During The Prayer For Fervent Supplication, I was moved so Deeply, that I was crying, for it was a Prayer calling for the Beatification of Venerable Fr Michael J. Mc Givney, Founder of The Knights Of Columbus. This was before the Nicene Creed.
Great Choir from The Immaculate Conception Shrine Basilica in Washington, D.C.(Part of The Ukrainian Archeparchy of Philadelphia & the RC Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.). And Byzantine Rite Tradition forgoes the use of Musical Instruments so all you hear is live a Capella.

I believe that the Upcoming Sunday Mass will be a Divine Liturgy in the Byzantine Rite Catholic Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom.
I need it to fight “The Good Fight”, as St. Paul puts it.

Christ Is Risen
Indeed, He Is.

2nd Sunday of Lent :(Tridentine Latin Mass)

21 Feb

The Tranfiguration:
The Christ & The Apostles on a Mountain;
The Miracle of The Lord Talking To Elijah & Moses;
Simon Peter, amazed by this, calls for building 3 Booths, with One For Jesus & the other two for Elijah & Moses;
God The Father comes on a Cloud & tells The Apostles “This Is My Beloved Son On Whom My Favor Rests. Listen To Him.”
It was to give The Apostles a Foretaste of Heaven & The Divine & have them Believe In Him. This is in The Gospel According to St. Matthew.

I now realize that The Tridentine Latin Mass is exact & orderly. The Epistle and Gospel Readings are the same. There is No ABC Cycle like “The Novus Ordo Mass.” And the Homiilies are good, in fact better than a Novus Ordo Mass.

The Tridentine Latin Mass speaks Catholic. The Novus Ordo Mass is a Mass of Mankind.

Deo Gratias!

The Church Militant In The Byzantine Rite

22 Jan

Michael Voris is NO MATCH for the Ukrainian Greek Catholics in Manhattan’s East Village. If Voris ever got out of line with these Catholics, they would march on “The Warehouse In Detroit”, with lit torches. They would even be joined by Tridentine Latin Mass Communities, one on the East Side of Manhattan on East 43rd Street between Lexington Avenue and 3rd Avenue and the one on West 37th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. This Sight wouldn’t be pretty, especially the Chant of “S, S, P, X”.
Thanks to the Discombobuluted, Ever Loving MTA, with E Trains running Local over the F Line & A Trains running over the F Line, I eventually decided against the NO Mass & went to St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the East Village on E 7th Street between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue for the Byzantine Rite Catholic Divine Liturgy Of St John Chrysostom. It was at 4:00PM in English. It was a Low Mass as there was no Cantor Available.

It was Sunday Before Theophany(Epiphany), as this Parish operates on the Julian Calendar(Yesterday was January 4th on the Julian Calendar). I did see some amici from Holy Innocents RC Church in Midtown Manhattan at this Divine Liturgy. Nouveau Tridentine Latin Mass Catholics, particularly the younger ones, will not hesitate to head to the Byzantine Rite Catholic Divine Liturgies. They do hesitate to head to the Novus Ordo Mass though.
The Divine Liturgy Of St John Chrysostom was offered by The Economos(Pastor) of St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the Very Reverend Fr Bernard Panzcuk, OSBM(Ordo Sancti Basilli Magni, or Order of St. Basil The Great), Fr Superior of The Order.
The Baptism Of The Lord was The Theme & so was the Descent Of The Holy Ghost in the form of A Dove. The Holy Ghost makes us Holy, as Does Christ having instituted The Eucharist just before He died on The Cross. But, thtough Baptism, we enter into Christ’s Life through Grace.

In Nomini Patris, Et Filli, Et Spiritu Sancti, Amen.

End Year “Thanks” To MTLOA- NOT

1 Jan

MTLOA is the Metropolitan Transportation Lack Of Authority. This applies whenever MTA NYC Transit’s Subways are run, irresponsibly. Like the Suprise Rerouting of an E Express Train at Roosevelt Avenue, without announcing it, adding 25 Minutes to the trip, DURING RUSH HOUR.

I would have been 15 Minutes Early for a very Faith Filled New Years Eve at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the East Village on E.7th Street in Manhattan, beginning with The Byzantine Rite Catholic Divine Liturgy Of St Basil The Great. Instead, without announcing anything, the E Express Train starts running via the R Local Tracks, making all Local Stops into East 53rd Street & Lexington Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, adding 25 Minutes to my trip, IN RUSH HOUR.

Yet, as I made it to my Moose Lodge in Maspeth, Queens to cool my heels & head, the R Train ran Express on the Local Tracks to Woodhaven Blvd & 59th Avenue, where I caught an uncrowded Q59 Bus. But, after 2016 Rolls in, I will journey to the 6:00AM Divine Liturgy Of St John Chrysostom at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. This way, I will open 2016 Byzantine Rite Style. I just want to do it differently & head to a Latin Rite Mass, probably at St. Agnes on East 43rd Street.

After all this, I will need a Good Rest, away from all this.

Agnus Dei, Qui Tollis Peccata Mundi, Miserere Nobis.

12 Hours Alpha & Omega 2015 Into 2016

31 Dec

I am planning to end 2015 & begin 2016, with a contingent of Holy Innocents Partisans, with the Byzantine Rite of The Catholic Church. It should prove to be Prayerful & Mystical.
At 6:00PM on Thursday, December 31st, 2015, a Divine Liturgy will be offered at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on E7th Street. This will be followed by an All Night Vigil, followed by Coffee Hour at Midnight at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, continuing with the All Night Vigil & Divine Liturgy at 6:00AM.
It should be a Peaceful Sleep at Home after this is done.
Happy Octave Of Christmas and Happy 2016.

“It’s Sad, Really”

24 Nov

The above is a comment made by Christopher Ferrara Esq on “The Remnant Forum” on You Tube, in regards to Michael Voris becoming Estranged from The Traditionalist Allies, who helped shape Michael’s Sensus Catholicus. I am using this comment to decry the Rather Massive Drop in crowds at St. Agnes on E43rd Street in Midtown Manhattan, from 2013 to 2015. It is from this Parish where I resumed a major return of My Sensus Catholicus in January, 2007, by going to a Tridentine Latin Mass(TLM), on a Sunday After Epiphany.
It was around The Advent Season, in fact the 1st Sunday of Advent(December 1st, 2013), when the Holy Sacrifice Of The Mass was “Wall To Wall” with Young People in a packed house.
And NOW? Where Did They All Go?
I recall the “Unofficial Master Of Ceremonies”, Mr David Lane of Woodside, Queens, passing Circulars after Mass. I asked as to why there is such a huge crowd, to which he remarked “The Latin Mass Is The Youth Movement of The Catholic Church.”
Fast Forward to 2015 & the Crowds were going much lower, though a young Dallas, Texas convert named Anne was there with a friend. A number of Pews were empty. I saw Anne at a TLM in 2014, as the crowds began dying down.
I may have gotten an inkling one Sunday, December 15th, 2013 at my 1st Ever Byzantine Rite Divine Liturgy Of St John Chrysostom at St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the East Village on E7th Street, across from Mc Sorley’s Ale House. A Latino Male told me that he goes to Holy Innocents in Midtown Manhattan & they have The TLM there 7 Days a Week. I did a double with the TLM at St. John’s Cemetery Chapel in Middle Village, Queens & then the Divine Liturgy Of St John Chrysostom. A certain # of Tridentine Latin Mass Catholics have often known about St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Certain of the Holy Innocents Crew also utilize the Russian Greek Catholic Parish of St. Michael’s on Mulberry Street in the Former Chancery of The RC Archdiocese of New York, on the Grounds of Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral Parish in Little Italy.

Today, much of the TLM Crowd at Holy Innocents is made up of former regulars at St. Agnes. Some felt uncomfortable at St. Agnes. I often see the St. Agnes Regulars at Holy Innocents during the week & a number of the Young People there. Potential Converts often come to the Sunday TLM at Holy Innocents.
The TLM came into St. Agnes in January, 1989. For awhile it was the ONLY TLM in NYC. Holy Innocents went with the TLM in 2009. It saved the Parish from Utter Oblivion. And it became The Centre of The TLM Movement, especially receiving huge Media Coverage because it was threatened with being merged or shut down.
There was Summorum Pontificum by Pope Benedict XVI on 07/07/07, which freed up the Offering of The TLM, by any Roman Rite Catholic Priest. In NYC the Mass grew. And in 2009, Holy Innocents joined the Tridentine Latin Mass. And this saved Holy Innocents.
But, I do say to those who want to give the TLM a shot to save one’s Sagging Faith, give St. Agnes a shot. You Will Love the TLM & the Great Conversations which follow it.
Give St. Agnes A Chance, People!

Deo Gratias!

The Church Militant-Go East For It

18 Oct

Can you imagine Paul VI attempting to impose the Novus Ordo Missae on the Byzantine Rite Catholics? Think about the protests which would occur from The Faithful.
Since I am blessed to be a Catholic from New York City, there are, in addition to the Roman Rite Catholic Church, there are the Eastern Catholic Churches, which truly speak of The Universality of One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church.
The Maronite Catholic Church is on Remsen Street in Brooklyn. It is the Headquarters of The Maronite Catholic Eparchy for the Eastern Half of The United States Of America. Our Lady Of Lebanon Cathedral, a former Protestant Community Church, sold to a Maronite Catholic Congregation. This Diocese is headquartered in The RC Diocese of Brooklyn Territory. In fact, Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral is a few blocks west of the RC Diocese of Brooklyn Cathedral called St. James on Tillary Street.
Usually, I head to two Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Parishes in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Eparchy of Stamford, CT, for the Divine Liturgy Of St John Chrysostom, one being St. George Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on East 7th Street in Manhattan’s East Village, in the confines of The RC Archdiocese of New York, & Holy Cross Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Astoria, Queens, in the confines of The RC Diocese of Brooklyn. So while I am in one Byzantine Rite Diocese, I attend in two Latin Rite Diocesan Territories, the Byzantine Rite Catholic Divine Liturgy Of St John Chrysostom.
Of course there is the Tridentine Latin Mass, so I will head to Holy Innocents RC Church in Midtown Manhattan on West 37th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue.
Both the Tridentine Latin Mass and Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom are Timeless Liturgies of Ancient Form.

Getting back to imposing the Novus Ordo Form of Liturgy on the Byzantine Rite, just think of the March to the Vatican Mission to the United Nations. Trust me on this one, it will not be a Pretty Sight in the least. Some Ukrainian Greek Catholics who have gone to Novus Ordo Masses, often feel like they haven’t been to Mass at all, shaking their heads, thinking that they were at a Lutheran Service.

I wouldn’t blame them in the least.
And I don’t care what “Schism Boy” in Detroit says, either.

What Didn’t Exist At The 1995 Papal Visit Of Pope Saint John Paul II

24 Sep

EWTN was NOT on Cable in NYC.
There were NO Smartphones.
SMS(Text Messaging, Two Way) was a Year Away. So was OMNIPOINT Communications.
Email was only sent from Laptops & Bigger Computers.
Wi Fi Hot Spots didn’t exist.

The Brooklyn Diocesan Prayer Channel carried EWTN’s Coverage.

2008 was when Smartphones began to proliferate. The Motorola Moto was capable of carrying Mobi TV. While on a train to Boston’s Fenway Park, I viewed the MSNBC Coverage of Pope Benedict XVI at Ground Zero.

2015 is when I received my Ticket to the Papal Central Park Procession by email as a PDF. I now have the ability to webcast it live over aroamingcatholicny’s Channel on Bambuser. Think of this as Homemade Coverage, live from NYC’s Famed Central Park.

And I thought back to 1979 when both of my Parents were Alive, then to 1995 when Pop was alive & was choked up with emotion. Both have passed on & now I will head into Manhattan for another Papal Visit.

In Nomini Patris, Et Filli et Spiritu Sancti, Amen!
